Honeymoon Phase Question Part 2 (Xpost)
I hate to say it, but sit back and watch...she's going to be one of the ones who gains her weight back unless she changes her tune.
With a RNY, my understanding is that yes, you have some malabsorption working for you in the beginning, 50% seems high, but it could be true.
BUT the RNY intestines adapt by about the 18-24 month mark. The intestines adapt, lengthen and develop more villae, so absorption picks up again, and so does the weight if you are not careful. AND the pouch heals and accomodates more food, so it's a dangerous combination for someone who is not mindful about their eating and exercise.
FYI, I do NOT have a RNY, but I remember all this stuff fom my research when I was considering getting one.

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
The way that I always have understood the RNY is to only think of the malabsorbsion as in the effect it has on vitamins and nutriants. You should never count on the calloric malabsorbsion because it will go away and you MUST learn to eat correctly.
I am sure the other people here who have had the RNY longer than I can explain better but that is the jist of it.
