I am 7 weeks out this past Monday, I have lost 35 pounds. I just feel like that's not a good loss? I never really feel hungry, but I never have the full feeling? I probably have posted this, but I'm feeling down :(  Any advice  or words of wisdom? Thanks

Do not feel down, look at it this way - when was the last time that you lost 35#s in 7 weeks? I feel it is a good loss. There are a few things to keep in mind: your body and metabolism are unique to you and you alone. Do not be down on yourself and try not to compare yourself to others with your weight loss.

The portion of your stomach is now cut off from where the hunger hormone, ghrelin is produced, hence the no hunger. Take advantage of this while you can. The hunger will come back but a little different than before. For me it is not that nawing deep hunger I had before. I cannot tell you when it will happen but to say for some it hardly comes back. You might want to look at how many calories you are taking in because you might be starving your body and it is in starvation mode and is hoarding calories. When I was at your time PO I had to literally schedule myself to eat. Sometimes you have to up your calories to feed it in order to loose more weight. And also take into consideration how much exercise you are getting. This goes back to the starvation mode

Let your clothing be your guide to the fact that you are loosing weight. I know that I told you that I weighed myself a lot at the same time PO in the other post but consider putting the scale away and gauge your loss by your clothing. I put my scale out in my garage and forgot about it for awhile.

Hope this all helps.

Oh, by the way also to add that the reason you do not feel the full feeling is because the nerve endings in your new pouch have not totally healed yet. Please be patient because it will eventually come back to you. Also, this is why doctors and NUTs teach you to eat slowly so you can register in your brain that you are full. It takes 20 minutes for the brain (minimum even for a normal sized tummy) to know that the tummy is full or sometimes sooner.

It's a good loss, in my non-medical opinion. To figure out if you're "on track," lots of people use EWL percentage figures. Most people can expect to lose 25% of their EWL by month 3, 50% by month 6 and 80% by 12-18 months, (I think that's how the numbers shake out, my memory is foggy).

I have no idea how much weight you hope to lose. So, let's say you have 100 pounds of excess weight to lose, then you are at 35% EWL right now, at just 7 weeks out.

To be considered a "successful" bariatric patient, you have to lose and keep off 50% of your excess weight. (I know, those numbers are pretty sad, considering what people go through to get their surgeries, but what can you do? The surgeons like to cover their asses by using pathetically low "success" numbers.)

It seems you might well be on track, or even "ahead," depending on your EWL goals.

Your pouch is still healing, so you can expect that you will be hungrier down the line, so use these early days of little hunger to really jumpstart your weight loss. My understanding is that with RNY, it does get harder down the line to lose and maintain, so keep doing what you're doing (as long as you get your protein, vitamins and water in, of course!).

It might help if you can get at least a reading on a Tanita-type scale that shows your muscle--you want to minimize muscle loss as you travel down the scale.

Good luck!

I think that is a great loss.   35 pounds in 7 weeks...that is fabulous!!  That is about 5 pounds per week!!  That is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!  Don't compare yourself to others......once you see Dr. Wallace..he is going to tell you that you are doing great!!  Keep up the great work!!!
