HOW CAN I START A SUPPORT GROUP
Mike,
Contact Debbie at [email protected] and she will get you set up for the next training sessions. You have to go through 3 phone training sessions. They are during the day and last around 2 hours. The next session is in November. If you contact Debbie she will give you all the info. Good luck. If you have any questions or need advice you can email me at [email protected]
Thanks

My groups are not run by OH. They give you good info, and you will have access to resources that not everyone has access too. You will also get a free subscription to OH magazine and you can get free samples for your group. My group is very informal, I just went through OH because they have info that I can use. You have access to what I equate to an online library of info. I was fortunate enought that I work in my fathers business, so I put my phone on mute and just listened while Cathy talked. At the end she will ask if anyone has questions and you can hang up at that point. So if you have a job that you can use your cellphone and some earphones or if you are off during the day, this is an easy option and you will then have great resources.
Just thought I would give you a little more info. Again, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Hi Mike!
Sheri and Christine are speaking about becoming an OH support group leader.
I am not sure if that is your question.
The Rockford Group is not run by OH. One of our members got a room/place to meet and we meet there once a month. Our group is informal and there is no one "leader". We gather to discuss whatever is important to us at that time.
So.....if you are not looking to be an OH Support Group Leader, find a place that is convenient to meet and invite people to attend. It could be at a restaurant or maybe you have a church or other facility that would supply space once a month. I know that patients of my surgeons have started a group in just this way.
Since I live in Rock City, I would be open to meet in Freeport with other WLS patients.
I would be interested to see what the OH Support Group Leader thing is all about, but there is no way I could take 2 hour phone classes during the day as I have to work.
