Never think nutrition isn't important
I'm not a regular here although I have been lurking since slightly before having my RNY in May...but I just wanted to remind new "losers" that ultimately they are responsible for their own nutrition. I will be having small intestine surgery next Tuesday because my RNY was connected too "low" in the intestine for me to properly absorb nutrients I've been getting steadily weaker since May and am now practicaly bed ridden. Although I followed all the rules - I should have been more emphatic with the docs about how really awful I felt - Instead I let them say it was just the rapid weight loss that was making me feel weak - (I'm down 120 pounds) or, that I must be not eating right. it's taken two endscopies, a feeding tube and a bunch of tests to get to this point where I go into the hospital Sunday in order to get "pumped full" of vitamins in order to be in good enough shape for the surgery on Tuesday. While I expect this surgery to "fix" the problem....I'm not thrilled about another open procedure. At any rate - remember to listen to your body. After all, you're the one in charge.
Not trying to offend anyone - just don't want ANYONE to ever have to feel this way.

Christina,
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I keep thinking of all the great things I'll be able to do now once I get my energy back. I just hope no one else ever has to get to this point before they figure out what's wrong. I still would have done it - there was no way I was going to lose this much weight without help.

Sharon,
I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. You are right, we must listen to our bodies. I think that many of us get discouraged because doctors insist that everything is ok when it really is not. I have learned through the years that when I think something is wrong, it generally is!
The nutrition and malabsorbtion issues really scare me. I hope I never find myself in a situation such as yours but I do realize that no matter how hard we try, we can get there despite our efforts.
Prayers are with your for a successful surgery and a speedy uneventful recovery.
