Meeting with HR
I have a meeting with HR tommorrow to discuss my leave of absence. I am sooo worried that my other Co-workers will find out that I am going to have WLS. I dont want anyone to know anything. I dont feel comfortable with tell folks about my personal life.
HR has to keep the nature of my surgery on a hush hush right? Or Do they have the right to tell my co-workers what type of surgery I am having?
I am soo not wanting them to find out ANYTHING!

Human Resources is not legally allowed to discuss any medical issues that you have with anyone else. Your supervisor may be required to know how long you will be gone and any restrictions that you may have when you return, but you can keep that general.
I think that you will find that people are a lot less judgemental than you expect. I was very open and have found nothing but support. I am glad that I have been open because I did somewhat dump at work one day and had to go home. Also, because you wont be eating a lot of the foods that you eat now, you dont have to come up with a lot of excuses and people wont tempt you. Of course, the decision is yours to make and you have to be comfortable with it.

No, they do not have to know what type of surgery. Just time off and restrictions you may have when coming back.

If the supervisor or HR say anything behind your back to other employees or openly discuss what you told them they are in violation of HIPPA laws.

Yes, HR must keep that informaiton confidential. I'm an HR professional and I always tell my employees that they don't have to feel pressured to share their personal medical info with anyone including their manager.
