Hey Dawn, I have a similar issue. They OB/GYN asked if he could repair "hernia" with RNY, But they couldn't so once I loose the weight I will have to go in and get everything fixed up! Kids are great huh?
The reason is 'Clean vs. Dirty" you don't want anything from the bowel contaminating the other areas because of the risk of severe infection. It's a pain , but it is for your safety.
It's a shame they didn't tell you about the procedures before and made you wait. Mine has gotten worse in the last year and the docs are hoping weight loss will help, but it's pretty bad. I understand you completely. you can PM anytime if I can help.
