Support Group in Central IL needed

I was approved for surgery last week and received the packet of information from my surgeon's office. I must attend at least 3 support groups before my surgery date can be scheduled. I live in Kansas, IL and my surgery will be with Dr. Oliphant at Carle in Urbana. They have support groups but only two a month. I am EXCITED and I want to do everything I can to get going with this. It has been a long time coming. If you know of a support group in the middle section of the state, please post. I am willing to drive to meet this requirement. Thanks for your help!

Hi, congrats on your approval. I do not know of any in your area, but if Carle offers support groups twice a month, then that is where I would go. Most groups only meet 1 time a month. When are you scheduled   for surgery?

I am not sheduled yet. I have to get the three support groups in before I can get scheduled. I just completed my 6 month supervised diet, met my 5% weight loss goal and got the packet of information from the surgeon. I cannot even meet with the surgeon until the packet is returned.

I do not know of any other support group meetings available that you can go to outside of Carle. The two others that I know of you are required to be post-op which is not what you need. I attended the ones at Carle. They do have different options depending on whether you are having the RNY or the lap band. The lap band session is only about 2 months old. Best of luck. Thanks. I did attend a meeting at Carle last Thursday. It was better than  I thought! :) I found a meeting from St. Vincent in Carmel that is taking plase in Terre Haute, IN which is only about 40 minutes from home. There is also another the fourth meeting Tuesday at Carle. So I am excited that I will be able to get the meeting requirement done and out of the way.
Now there are other hoops...I am willing to jump though! It will be all worth is once I am off to a new start.

Do you attend meetings? Which procedure did you have done?
