Friday Roll Call!

Good Morning Illinois!!!

It's Friday and it's a long weekend.  I had my staples removed yesterday and I can eat solid foods  I still need to take it easy and let the healing process go forward, but I feel much closer to normal now.  The response to my post about a get together was very positive and we are now planning to go forward so watch for updates.  There is a slight chance that I may need to be in an all day CPR class on that Saturday, and if that happens, we would move the party to Sunday, but I don't know that to be the case.  I'll know way in advance so it won't be a last minute surprise.  Tomorrow I am in an art show in Lake in the Hills, IL.  If you are looking for something to do, come on out and stop by.  Liz and the kids will be with me since I still can't lift to do the setup.  It's only one day so don't wait until Sunday!

Have a great day!

Paul

Good morning Paul and IL family.

I decided to take another day off - so now I have a 4 day weekend. YAY!! I slept a little more last night. The pain is still there. PT has me icing my knee 3 times a day. He gave me instructions on going up and down the stairs, as I have a full staircase to the second floor and bedrooms.

Today I am going to try and make Nancy's protein ice cream recipe. I have to go to walmart for some ingredients and need to go to the grocery store. It's hair day as well - beauty shop appointment at 2 pm. Otherwise, lots of rest at home.

It looks like the first part of my long weekend will be the resting part. Sunday and Monday will be family visitation days.

Paul, I hope you can still keep the Saturday date, because Sunday will be difficult for those who have to work early Monday morning. Maybe consider another Saturday in October if that is the case. Your body will tell you if you are not eating the right foods at this stage. Take it slow and easy. Nothing is worse than bringing up food with a band.

Good luck with your art show in Lake in the Hills tomorrow. It's supposed to be a great weather weekend.

Wishing everyone a fabulous Friday and coming weekend.

Hugs,
Lucy

Good Friday to You, Paul, and the stae of Illinois,

Paul, whatever day you have your get together on will be find with me, except the following weekend. We have a wedding in Springfield on the 24th.

Lucy, I agree with you. A 4 day weekend is great. Even if I just got back  to work.

I had a WOW moment last night. I had ordered some jeans online, and thought they were pull-ons. Well. they came, and had zippers in them. First idea was to send them back, since no way would I get them zipped. I decided to humor myself, and try them om. THEY ZIPPED!!!  I was both happy and surprised. I even wear them to the rec room so DH could see. I have reached a new level in my journey.

Today is housecleaning and going shopping with DH. Tomorrow, road trip with DD. Not sure what we are doing, but we will be going someplace.

Have a great and safe day.

HUGS, LISA

Congratulations Lisa! Zippered jeans instead of pull-ons. Now you know that is a big WOW moment.

So many more to come. I am very happy for you.

I was just thinking about the get together. If it is on a Sunday, that limits the time to enjoy because the next day is a work day for many of us. Depending on where our friends are living, it could be a long drive and then not much time for a visit.

I'm going to try to make Nancy's ice cream today. Probably though, making it blueberry. I love blueberries. It will be fun to experiment. This is something I wanted to try for a long time now.

Hugs,
Lucy

Don't worry about the date for the get together.  I will know in plenty of time so we will get it straight.  It is our intention to do it on a Saturday, and we really like the 17th.  There's only a small chance of the CPR class being that day.  I just put that out there in case it needs to be changed.

I had an interesting WOW moment a few minutes ago.  Liz decided to order some shirts for me for the winter and she needed my neck and sleeve size.  For 20 years I wore an 18 and 1/2 neck with a 34 sleeve.  I just measured to tell her the size and I now take a 15 inch neck with a 32 inch sleeve!

Wow, 3 1/2 inches from the neck and 2 inches from the sleeve. WTG, Paul!

Good Morning Illinois!

I am still on a Approval High! lol

I will be going to the Waterfront here in Rockford this weekend. Then heading to TN on Sunday. I am excited about that as well.

Today, a guy at my job gave me a bunch of Dannon Frusion Smoothies..(banana Berry).  They are extremely good. The only problem is that I dont know or understand how to read labels yet.

My sugery is in Nov, of course you guy already know, but I am wondering does anyone here have a really simple and easy way of learning how to read labels. I know I will have to do this for the rest of my life.....

Thoughts?

Hi Tonya!
I looked up the nutrutional infor for this product:
Calories  180  (that is almost a full meal post-op)
Calories from fat  20  (divide the calories from fat by the total calories 11%--try to stay under 30%)
Total fat   2.5 g (not bad)
Cholesterol   10 mg (not bad)
Sodium   70 mg (not bad)
Potasium   260 mg (this seems good)
Carbohydrates   35g (Post-op you probably want about 120 NET CARBS per DAY)
Fiber   0 g  (subtract fiber from carbs to get NET CARBS)
Sugar   33g  (my surgeon's office suggests that no food have more than 5 g per serving)  Post-op, this could probably cause dumping, which is TERRIBLE.
Protein   5g

So, this may be OK for pre-op, but will cause problems post-op.

The biggest things that I look for on the label are protein first (I like 8-10 at minimum), calories, carbs, sugar and fat.
I try to keep fat at 30% or less, calories at 300-350 per MEAL, sugar below 5-10 per MEAL which then usually takes care of the carbs.

I hope this helps?

Good morning Paul and the rest of Illinois!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on those WOW moments Paul and Lisa!!!!  They just keep coming!  Good to hear it!

If there is any way I can make the next get together, you KNOW that I will.  Thanks for the compliment.  I'm also glad to hear that you can eat without vomiting.  What a neat experience!

I am working a shorter day today, then to wally-world for a couple of things.  We have a bumper crop of Jalapeno peppers and Todd want me to make cream cheese poppers, so I am going to try.  I hope they like them, because that is not really MY idea of good food.

We still have no idea what we are doing this weekend.  The kids want to go to Great America and we are considering that.  We also have an annual camp-over party we are invited to on Saturday.  Monday is the 2nd (or is it 3rd?) annual Lawn Tractor pulls in my driveway, and that is always a hoot!  My neighbors drag each other up and down the driveway and we get together for a cook out.  We don't own a lawn tractor, but we have a flat cement driveway so we are elected to host.

The school's first home football game is tonight and my kids want to go.  I have no interest since David is not playing so we will see.  Todd has a softball game in town that I'd rather attend, but SOMEONE needs to keep an eye on the kids so I will probably do that tonight.

Everyone have a safe and wonderful weekend!
