Any recent Dr. Alverdy patients?
Charlee,
My hubby had DS with Dr. Alverdy two years ago and he is doing great! I had surgery elsewhere, had some complications, and ended up seeing Dr. Alverdy to try and help me out (saw him today matter-of-fact), and I really like him. I think he knows his stuff, my problems have been very complicated, and he hasn't given up on me yet. I know other people that have had surgery with him and have been happy as well. I hope this helps

Hey, Charlee!
Only 1 or 2 DS patients post regularly here on the Illinois forum. We mainly hang out in the DS forum, so you may want to check that forum out, too.
Also, check out www.dsfacts.com for more general info and stories about the DS.
I had my DS in San Fran with John Rabkin (we have a monthly DS support group here in Chicago. If you would like to attend, please PM me), BUT I have been an angel to a handful of U of C DS patients and they had GREAT experiences with them. I have visited them in the U of C hospital and the hospital is clean and the nurses have been great.
I do know the following people on OH had their surgeries with the U of C docs:
carmen 3823 (just had hers there in March/April)
biggeekgirl (had it a couple of years ago, just had baby a month ago)
scaryreader (had her DS a couple of years ago)
Sandra N. (and her hubby, Charlie had their DSes on the same day about 9 months ago)
Julia K. (had her DS a couple of years ago)
chickflickstyle (she and her hubby had their surgeies about 8 months ago)
All are doing very well, to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure they wouldn't mind it if you PMed them, too.
Best of luck to you!
Nicolle

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
Although I haven't seen Dr. Alverdy lately he did do my DS in October of 2005(can't believe it's been 4 years
. I chose the DS because friends have had the Roux N-Y and not had the same success. My BFF had it 9 months before me and has gone from 414 down to 220. My mother in law had it the same day as me and has gone from 335 to 170. I've gone from 353 and as of today I'm 165. I went from a 30-32 top and a 26-28 pant to a size 12. Dr Alverdy is professional and nice. He is excellent in his field. U of C is a wonderful hospital and I was treated like royalty(my insurance thru my employer (first health) would only allow me to have the Roux NY. Medicaid paid for the DS after a short waiting time for approval). Dr. Alverdy and his entire team are the greatest.
