I almost forgot!!!!
I almost forgot to tell you what the GI nurse said:
When we were talking about the fact that I had had RNY, she asked how much I had lost (90 lbs.) She said that I looked great and was doing good to maintain that loss. I told her how I am disappointed that I never got to goal and she said again how great it was that I was able to maintain.
She told me that they see LOTS of patients that have had WLS that have gained ALL their weight back. (Most all of them that they see.) She said we would be surprised at how much the pouch can stretch out, "almost to its former size". I told her that my surgeons said that was impossible. She said that in her experience, they can see that a person had surgery to reduce the size of the stomach, but most had stretched it almost back to normal, where they can eat LOTS of food. Her comment was something about how amazing our bodies are that they can adapt.
The moral of the story is to KEEP WITH THE PLAN---BE VILIGANT ABOUT OLD, BAD HABITS creeping back into your life. THIS IS A LIFESTYLE, NOT A DIET!!!!
I told her about the great support system that I use, both the live Rockford Support Group and my OH family. She was surprised and didn't seem to know such things existed.
To be fair.....she IS a GI nurse and the only reason she would be seeing RNY patients is if they are having issues, but still................................

Wow that is so true. My Dr always reminds us that this is a tool, not a cure all, fix me ,one stop shop. Lifestyle change is the biggest step and factor to our success! We have been given the tool and we need to use it properly! I do know people who have regained after WLS! Scary thought!

Interesting. I'm sure you're right that she sees WLS patients who are having problems and that skews the results.
I think it's something about the way the RNY stomach is cut--horizontally, not along the vertical, stretchy part, (the greater curvature) of the stomach. Since much of the greater curvature tissue still remains in a RNY, it makes sense that it could stretch over time.
With a VSG or a DS, the stomach is cut and stapled along the greater curvature of the stomach, where most of the "hunger homone" grehlin is made and released. It makes it LESS likely to stretch, but not impossible.
You're right--we all have to remain vigil. For DSers and VSGers, simple carbs can do us in, since we absorb 100% of them. It's always something!
