Ugh... just when I thought all was well I took another blow.
I'm sorry to hear you are not getting the surgery you originally wanted.
Yep, most insurance will NOT cover the VSG, since there are no long-term results at this point. And the long-term results to date have been as bad as the band (or worse) for those who have lots to lose (no offense to those with either, but the stats just don't support them for long-term success).
You do have another bariatric choice--the DS. If you want more info, check out www.dsfacts.com. We have a support group in Chicago on September 21 if you'd like to come. Just send me a PM.
Best of luck to you no matter what you decide, Omar! You are determined to succeed and that will be a major factor in your success.

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
Wow, Omar, it is just amazing that no one told you about the denial for VSG before now! I'm glad they gave you some other options, though. Don't worry about venting, it makes the rest of us feel like we have a sympathetic ear when we need it too! I was wondering what surgery your wife is having? Is it the band also?
It sounds like you already made your decision, so GOOD FOR YOU! I'm hoping to follow you to the loser's bench soon.
