All female RNY'RS please read me!! (Xpost)
I have a female question. (Sorry to any men who may read this) I hard surgery on Aug 17, all went great! My question is does having a major surgery like I did effect your period? My period this month was 6 days early and has lasted 7 days which is long for me. I'm just curious if the surgery messed with my hormones a little bit?
Hey,
Yes, the surgery will almost always trigger your period because of the hormonal changes. I was told to expect it and sure enough, it was triggered 5 days Post Op.
As you loose weight all the hormones are released from the fat cells. Not only does this trigger your period but it will trigger emotional fluctuations. One minute you'll be happy, the next you will be a raging ***** to even uncontrollable crying.
Hang in there!

Hey Laura, many women will get their periods differently due to the stress of what has happened to their bodies from the surgery and it is very common. That being said - also from what I have read the female hormones get trapped in the fat tissue and they start getting released when your body starts to break down the fat. Yes, I guess you can say that your surgery messed up your hormones a bit and you might have a roller coaster ride with the hormones for a while during your weight loss. When I had my surgery I was just about ready to go into menopause so I really cannot say that I had the same issues as some other women. I became more regular and my periods started to shorten at that time.
Hang on girl you will get through it.
