pre op testing
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie.... and I'm currently making appointments for preop testing before Gastric Bypass. My surgeon will be Dr. Siegel. Advice from all is VERY much appreciated but especially those who used Dr. Siegel and Dr. Gibson.
I guess the unknown is the scariest for anyone going through anything!! If anyone could give me an idea of what their reviews and pre op experiences were I would gladly appreciate it. Of course like anyone I'm most scared of having my physcological eval done... something about someone getting inside your head is just intimdating!! Plus I also wondered what the Physical testing is like.... do I run on a treadmill and what exactly does the $70 cover? And while we are on the subject of money what does the $250 aftercare program cover? Just curiousl Thanks all!

Hi there ~ I'm a newbie, too. :)
I'm not familiar with your surgeons, so I don't know what to tell you about your tests. I wanted to tell you about the psychological part, though. I think that is the same wherever you go. I saw a dr. that wasn't connected with my surgical center b/c I needed someone in network. I took a test called the MMPI, which was a very long T/F test. It had approx. 560 true and false statements. You then had to determine if the statement was more true or more false for you. The questions measure different things. My dr. scored the test within a week and I can say that it is official, I'm not crazy! lol My dr. also did an initial interview with me. She got some basic health information, food/eating info, family info, what information did I know about the surgery before and after, what kind of support system did I have, etc.
I know that I didn't get the way I am by eating too much and not moving enough only. There are other things going on that I need to deal with or things won't change.

Hi, First where are your Drs located? I am not familar with them either.
The phych eval is a long t/f test that you may or not do on a computer. When I did mine, I was able to see the Dr right after for a personal eval. Don't worry about it. They don't FAIL to many. The idea is to make sure you are doing this surgery for the right reasons. And not because someone wants you to do this. you will have to see a number of Drs. Cardio, lung, your gp. Do everything as your Dr tells you to, it will get done.
It is so nice that you found us. We try to help as much as we can. Please join us in our daily roll call. This is where we all check in and let everyone know what is happening in our daily lives.
