At 3.5 Weeks Post Op Have You Experienced This Kind of Pain?

So I'm 3.5 Weeks Post Op. Starting last Monday (over a week ago) a constant, dull pain started in my lower left abdomin. No where near my incisons. Surgeon is baffled, no idea what is causing it. 36 hours ago this dull pain turned into a constant, searing burning pain. For me, it's like a 7 out of 10 on a pain scale. Worse than the pain I experienced day after the surgery. I've had a CT Scan & Ultrasound to rule out kinking of my intestines and issues with my ovaries, ER doctor gave me liquid Oxycodone, highly controlled and very strong narcotic. Other than making me dizzy it didn't do anything to alleviate the pain.

Surgeon is now concerned I have an internal infection so he prescribed an antibiotic, after taking two doses yesterday now the pain is even worse this morning?!

My incisions look fine and when you push anywhere around them nothing hurts, I'd say the pain is about 6 inches below my farthest left incision.

I am getting pissed that no one can figure out what is going on or why this pain is not going away.

Then to top it off, I had a full seizure with convulsions night before last that lasted over a minute. Now I'm trying to figure out what triggered that, the pain or maybe the one small dose of oxycodone that I took over 12 hours earlier?

This past week and a half has been very trying towards my patience and I am left wishing I never did the surgery as I have never dealt with so many problems in my life.

Any ideas or has anyone experienced something similar?

For more details of my past 48 hours I posted a very detailed blog if you'd like to get further info.

Thanks,
Heather

Heather,
I am unable to help you, but I am so sorry you are having this problem. I guess my advice to you is to go back to the ER and demand that an internist sees you.

Thanks, but I went to the ER Wednesday & again Friday. There is nothing more they can do. They can't figure out what is going on and neither can my surgeon. I'm a medical mystery...

Nothing more they can do??  I dought that.  Demand answers, refuse to leave the hospital until they figure it out.  You know your body and if something is not right, you need to force them to get to the bottom of it.  You need to be your own avicate.  Trust me, no one else will do it for you.

Good Luck and I'm sorry you're not feeling well.

Heather,

Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time. Insist, insist, insist on answer. I read your blog and the fluid does sound like a ruptured ovarian cyst to me. Until your body absorbs the fluid or it's aspirated, you could have some mild pain.

Were you ever diagnosed with diverticulosis? That's a possibility.

Did they perform a H. Pylori test prior to surgery? An ulcer could cause the pain also. Does the pain go away after you eat?

I was having mild issues (stomach pain, acid reflux) shortly after surgery and ended up on Carafate in addition to the Prevacid Solutabs that I was already taking. Within several days the pain was gone.

Sorry for the numerous questions....

Now about that SERIOUS pain....

Insist, insist, insist on an answer. Your pain is real so stay put at the surgeon/PCP/ER until your pain is resolved.

Hope you feel better.

Hey,
Thanks for the responses. On Friday, when I had my IUD inserted my Gyno also checked my uterus visually, palpated, and did an ultrasound. He can find NOTHING that would indicate that it's my ovaries or uterus causing the pain. Even when he palpated my right ovary it didn't hurt, it was slightly above it.

Anything gynecological has been ruled out and they inserted my IUD just fine.

As for demanding not to leave the ER until I get answers? Hah. I DID do that. Victory Memorial Hospital ER (Vista Waukegan) Friday night had a security guard come talk to me and told me I was "officially" discharged and if I didn't leave the property they'd be forced to call the Waukegan Police Department. So....yeah.....not work risking being arrested when the ER doctor, Dr. Gregory Cowell claims there is NOTHING more he can do.

Okay, so I've been taking that antibotic since Friday evening and would you believe the pain has gotten even MORE intense? Which, at this point I didn't think was even possible.

I tried a little meatloaf for the first time last night, ended up throwing it back up 30 minutes later, while I was throwing it up the pain got so bad I passed out while throwing up. Best way to describe it, someone taking a serrated knife and slicing my left side sideways. It was burning, stinging, hot, searing pain.

Now for my observation of my body. The spot that hurts, the fatty tissue around the area is really soft and squishy vs the opposite side that is firm, and relatively uniform. WTF? My husband and his close friend are both very concerned, I let them poke at me last night and they both felt a big difference between the two tissues on opposite sides.

As for seeing Siegel, he doesn't want to see me bac****il my 4 week post op check up on Friday after I've been on the antibiotic for a week.

I just dont get it....I'm in so much pain, I'd rate it about a 8 constantly and NO ONE is taking me seriously.

No, I didn't have any tests other than the standard bloodwork before my surgery.

Nothing I do gets rid of the pain, its always there, but depending on the situation it gets severly worse. IE: Laying down (making it impossible to get good sleep, throwing up, standing up or sitting down)

I'm a medical mystery....
