Questions to Ask the Surgeon

Does anyone have a list of questions that they asked there surgeon?

I have started a list but not sure if I have missed anything.

Please let me know. Any help will be appreciate.

What type of RNY do you perform. Distal or Proximal.
How long is the common channel
What is the size of the pouch you make.
Do you personally visit my family after surgery
Do you use a vena cava filter
What kind of post op care will I need when I go home.
Do I bring my own cpap machine
Do you perform a liver biopsy during surgery
Do you remove the gallbladder during surgery
Do any patients go to the ICU after surgery
What are your statistics on leaks
What is your statistics on infections
What is your death rate
How do you feel about medical id bracelets
Do you leave a drain in when I go home
How do you close your incisions
How often will I receive blood draws to check my vitamins after surgery
Do you sugest bone density scans, how often
Do you recommend an abdominal binder
Are you experienced in revisions if needed

When can I shower, bathe
How long do I need someone to stay with me after surgery
What weight goal do you suggest for me

     You are more than welcome. I have had to change surgeons just as I was ready to send the letter to insurance for approval back in June. So I had a lot of questions for the new surgeon that I knew about with the old surgeon.. Now with an insurance change on 8-1-09 I may have to ask all these again. and maybe more.. Insurance companies make things so difficult. 
     Make sure you ask anything you are wondering about even if it seems like a silly question or you think it might offend the surgeon.,.They are used to the questions and will not be offended.. You need to have peace of mind. You are putting your life in their hands..
