Can someone give me some insight on both?

I am not sure which procedure will be the best, but yet get me to the weight I would like to be.

Thanks,

Tracy

Dear Tracy:

This is something that is a very personal choice for each of us.  I'm sure your doctor will discuss this with you to help you come to the best answer for YOU.

I chose RNY because I could not deal with the idea of a port and fills.  I appreciate the dumping effect to keep me away from too much suger and fat.

Welcome to the board and keep on asking those questions!

Tell someone that you love them!

I remember so well that question when I asked it. The best answer given to me was RESEARCH!!! There are many options not just RNY and Lapband. Some insurance companies will dictate what kind they will pay for. I chose the RNY for the same reasons as Bert...didn't want to worry about a port..fills and all that. I researched both and recommend you lurk on the boards for all types ask questions and become educated on all them then make the choice YOU want! Some are better because of what you many binge on....and how you eat....
Keep asking questions and finding out everything you can!

 Tracy,

I had a nice discussion with Dr McClellan about this.  I originally wanted lap band.  She talked the pros and cons of both surgeries.  For me, I was a sweet eater and knew I would out eat the band and defeat its purpose.  The final kicker was when Dr McClellan pulled an actual band out to show it to me.

It is very much a personal decision.  For me, RNY has been the best choice and I have not regretted it one day and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I chose Lap Band after seeing my mom go through RNY.  There can be many complications with RNY.  Atleast with the band, I know it can be reversed or fixed if I have problems.

My mom has lost 165 lbs in the last two years.  She has some sort of problem that they haven't figured out yet and since she was self pay, she is afraid to find out.  She vomits daily and pretty much lives on her EASY food because she knows she wont get sick from it.  Basically, tomato soup, egg drop soup, and granola bars.  SHe stil is taking those protein supplement tubes (fruit flavored) because otherwise she would lose all of her hair.

I am not trying to scare you away.  Many people have great sucess with both procedures, but with my experience with it, the Lap Band looked a whole lot better.  Keep in mind RNY can leave you in the hospital for days.  Lap Band I had surgery at 8 and was home by 1:30.  My surgery was Thursday and I plan to be at work tomorrow!!

Research!  Good Luck!
