You CAN Enjoy The Taste of Chicago!!!

Hello IL,
I thought OMG, ['m going to the Taste of Chicago I'm going to be miserable. Well I wasn't. I didn't eat very much, but I felt so empowered and proud of myself. At 5 months out, I've been doing pretty good. I lost 81 Lbs (still working on a few things like upping my protein, more cardio etc. )

Anyway, I ate lunch before I went, then picked at few small things; Italian ice, (few spoons), and actually, I think thats it. I tried a little of my daughters shrimp. But basically I looked, smelled and used it as opportunity to walk.

I was surprised to see how I didn't react to all the food.  Not because my nose was broke, but because i talked to myself about meat, fried foods sugars etc. i just kept talking to myself about none of this good for me. Then I got a huge bottle of water and went to the concert area.

Festivals can be a good thing - we just have to keep talking and thinking and preparing. (I had an emergency protein bar in my purse..lol)
Good Luck!!!

Trying to figure out how to reverse this weight gain.

As POs my DH (we both had RNY) and I have enjoyed the Taste for the last several years. We share most of everything that we purchase. We are very selective on what we get and go up and down the food booth rows reviewing what they all have then we decide what we are going to try. This year they are supposed to have more "Taste" items that are smaller in portion. Did you find that the "Taste" item were WLS safe or are they non protein items? Two years ago there was a booth that had turtle soup; rich but tasty and we shared the small portion. We stay away from the sugary items on a whole. I am not a sweet eater anyways.

When going to the Taste it also is a great oppurtunity to get some exercise in. We take Metra and walk from Union Station to the lake front, back again plus to and from our house to the train which is about 3/4 mile each way. We are going this Friday as I have the day off from work.

I'm not sure if they were WLS safe, or more it was me really watching closely and like you kind of deciding what I was NOT going to eat.

They did have shrimp and lobster skewers, BBQ which I can't eat right now and plenty of chicken; baked  and fried. My daughter there are less booths this year, because of the economy that could be true. Also, several booths had corn, (cannot eat either right now LOL).

Like you I used it as an opportunity to exercise I would not have had the energy to do this last year.

God Bless,

I LOVE the Taste, but haven't been able to go because I have little kids.

I think I am going to have to find a way to go this or next year--get a babysitter and go to town!
