Well, I had a slip today.

I was making my son dinner.

I grabbed a skinless chicken breast from the resealable Walmart bag.

Threw it in the oven in a pan so I could bake it.

He said he wanted Mashed Taters.

Now, I have always had a weak spot for those Taters.

I made some crappy instant potatoes and put some butter in them then sprinkled some garlic salt in them to make them good-er.

Then I made the slip. I tasted them to make sure they weren't poison. (I had to its a Dad's job)

I took a little nibble off the spoon.

They were sooooo good. I ate more. Then more. I tried to eat something else so I could save myself.

But the potatoes were screaming at me!

I ended up eating about a cup of potatoes. They had a lot of FAT butter in them, and garlic salt.

Now I feel bad.  I know I shouldn't have eaten them.

I brushed my teeth like 5 times to get rid of the taste.

I did everything I could to stop, but couldn't.

Do I have to live the rest of my life slipping and sliding back into the old ways?

I need help.

I wish I could take a pill for my brain sometimes.

Now I have to go to mydailyplate to see how bad I did.

Well, I figure my BINGE cost me about 400 calories, and about 35 carbs. Plus about 25 or so grams of fat.

Plus a ton of sodium.

Today I doubled my calories and carbs over my average for the last month.

I have been averaging about 600 calories and staying well under 20 carbs and eating about 40(ish) protein.

I haven't gone over 600calories since my surgery.

Today I had like 900 calories and 92 carbs. Thanks mostly to the potatoes, oatmeal for b-fast, and my protein bar has 17carbs

It just ticked me off.

Dave, we have all had our demons. So you had some potatoes, no big deal. Today is a new day. Start over. I can leave the breads alone, soda, haven't drank it in years, but give me a chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie, thats danger.

You will learn what to eat and how to eat. Don't let one day ruin it for you.

My God, Dave. I had NO idea you were eating so few calories. Is that what your doc recommends? Is that common for RNYers? Sorry if you have discussed this already on here, but I am very curious.

Maybe I'm passing on a wives' tale, but I thought we needed at least 750 calories a day for proper brain and heart function.

And for what it's worth, you'll be okay. We all slip sometimes, no matter what goal we are shooting for. I'd be cheating my ass off every day, if that was as little as I was supposed to eat. You ARE a superhero!

((((Dave)))) don't beat your self up over the taters,  it is going to happen The surgery was on our tummy's not on our head, I wish my head was in on it too but it is not and that is why we  have  a weight problem because of our heads,  The other day I  put a Tootsie roll in my mouth and chewed it about 4 or 5 times and spit it out I knew I was not to have it and had to over ride my brain, but I have been working on it for 15 months now, the good think is that you know what you did and now you will not do it again, Do you like Sweet Tater? Fresh not canned, They are good for you and help with the tatter thing, When I make them I cook 3 or 4 of them and then put them into single serving for me in the freezer and when HD has tatters I have my Sweet taters, Take care and start fresh today,

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

I can't really add to what the others have said, but I want you to stop beating yourself up over it.  You will get the hang of this soon.
