VSG Surgeon
The doctor my wife and I have chosen ( Dr.Christopher D. Joyce) will hopefully be performing my VSG. He works out of Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL . His partner and him our on the featured Bariatrics page www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+profile+ Christopher+D+Joyce+pcc.html I hope that helps?? They also have a web page www.bmisurgery.org that gives more background information on them.
Hi, Kate!
I had the duodenal switch surgery. The first part of the DS surgery is the surgery you are investigating, the VSG. The early restriction is great, but then once that's normalized, the malabsorption part of my surgery kicks in (the actual switch part of the DS) and helps keep the weight off. Not sure if you knew about this WLS option. I know I didn't when I first starting looking into WLS.
Since the VSG is new as a stand-alone weight loss surgery, there is not much data on it. But there are some helpful folks on the VSG board who can share their experiences, and possibly their surgeons' info. LOL
My surgeon, John Rabkin, does the VSG on select patients (because of regain concerns), but he's in San Francisco. While he does come here monthly for our support group meeting, I know long-distance is not for everyone. You may want to check with the University of Chicago (Drs. Alverdy and Prachand) and Dr. Rossi in Peoria, too.
Good luck!
