Just a random question.
Hey I have a random question.
My lovely husband is getting a leave in april for a whole month...he wants to take me and my son to Europe for 18 days(long story short he wants to make up our honeymoon he wanted to take me to France for a whole month and we got to london for a week. except then he got a phone call from his commanding officer saying his deployment date has been moved up and we flew right home after one great week in London so he wants to get me to Paris..lol I am very lucky)...if I time it right I will be about 4 weeks out of surgery and I am wondering is this ok...Have other people traveled so soon after wls...I wanna make sure I don't sell my self short and maybe just do wls after the trip

You ARE a lucky girl! Good for you!
As far as your question goes, I would ask your doctor. As far as I can remember, I probably could have done the traveling, but I know that I was still a bit sore at the biggest incision site, moving slower than usual and still tired out pretty easily at 4 weeks out. The doctor will know best.
Good Luck. I am happy for you. (Of course I wouldn't pick France.

I would tell you to get a good pair of T.E.D. Hose to wear on the plane.
One huge problem with the surgery is blood clots.
Sitting on the plane for 14 hours isn't good.
Talk to your Doctor. Tell him about your plans.
Ask him to have you sized for a pair of TED hose.
Maybe see if you can get some kind of oral lovenox or something you can take.
And Have a good time.

Personally Nicole I would just plan for WLS for afterward. I know my doc wouldn't even allow me to go to Kentucky to visit a 6 hour drive from me at 4 weeks out. And I know I was still getting use to the whole eating thing and trying to find out what worked and didn't work. And if there should be any problems (heaven forbid), you don;t want to run it close on recovering. I was still feeling very rundown at 4 weeks out and got tired very easily and didnt have much energy. I would give your self some time to really recover or wait til after that awesome trip to have surgery. But the test thing to do is ask the doctor.
Thanks guys I raelly appreciate your input I really think I might just wait till I come back to do it...even though I am in a big hurry to have it...lol...But yea I really want to enjoy this trip ...Dave Why not france I love it...probably because i studied it for 9 years....but i just finalized our itinarary

You would really need to touch base with your physician on this because of possible eating restrictions etc. You might still be on a pureed or soft diet so keep that in mind. I have read in the past on many of the boards where people have traveled shortly after their surgery because of their work. As far as the long plane ride, well there are many people that go abroad for their surgery and they return shortly afterwards to home, but you will be going away from home, keep that in mind. Also, keep this in mind regading sitting for so long on a plane and the threat of blood clots. The reason I say this is because my husband in 2000 was SMO, took a plane ride (on business) from Providence RI to Chgo O'Hare and landed in the hospital for 10 days with a blood clot.
So, we really cannot tell you if it is okay to do so as only your physician can advise you on this.
It is an exciting prospect to be going over the big water to Europe. Been there many times and always enjoy going, but love coming home more.

I remember when I had mentioned to the doc at the consultation he said a short trip would probably be ok depending on how far out i was from surgery. However I really don't want to risk it. This will be a great trip and this will be longest time my son and I will be spending with my husband since march 08...so I really think I will just enjoy the trip together and then come back and then do the surgery...I just wanted to see if other people had traveled so soon.
Thanks again
Nicole
Thanks again

I say wait til after the trip. Going on a trip like that you want to be carefree and you won't be able to be 4 weeks out.
And..you never know if you will have complication or not...this is coming from someone who sailed through her surgery and a week later ended up back in the hospital for 2 weeks and having another open surgery!
Wait, and enjoy your time with your hubby and son!!
