I think UIC takes all insurances. They even fight for your coveage.

I don't know how far you are from the Chicago area.

Hi and WELCOME!!!!

At the top of the message board in green, is a message "sticky" thread that lists and talks about all the Medicare/Medicaid providers.  I would start there.

Tell someone that you love them!

Hi, newme. I'm sorry for your situation. I certainly can relate as I was 37 years old and 344 pounds with herniated discs when I decided I needed to do something.

I had the DS 10 months ago and it saved my life and helped me lose almost 170 pounds so far. The weight loss has been effortless and I can eat anything I want, as long as I get my protein in first. I feel fantastic and so far, my labs are great.

No surgeon I consulted (Northwestern, Little Co. and others) thought the LapBand would be a good choice for me as I had so much to lose and it had a high incidence of weight regain. Have you considered either the DS or the RNY?

It sounds like money is a major factor in your decision. The University of Chicago (Drs. Prachand and Alverdy) does the DS and they accept Medicare payment, but there may be a waiting list, but that's not insurmountable.

Please visit the DS and RNY forums to learn or feel free to PM me if you are interested.

Good luck to you!

Nicolle
