I am very excited, I will be having my RNY-Lap surgery on January 12, 2009.  Dr. Wallace will be performing the surgery.  I have to complete the pre-surgical testing, which is scheduled for December 23rd.  I also have to have a IVC filter inserted on January 9, 2009.  I had a blood clot in 2002, and this is a preventive measure.  I also see Dr. Wallace on January 8, 2009, for one last consult.

I am very impressed with the program at The Kane Center.  It feels as though I have been going back and forth to appointments, but they have all the bases covered!!  I am very confident in Dr. Wallace and the team at  The Kane Center.

I am very excited and know that this surgery can be used as the tool to help me become healthier!

I am a bit nervous/scared.

Happy Thursday Everyone!!!

Hi Joy. Congrats on getting your surgery date. That's so exciting!

They do take every precaution in order to prevent post-op complications. We were all a bit scared/nervous and excited at the same time before surgery. All the emotions you will feel are normal.

Keep us posted on your WLS journey. You do have one of the best doc groups taking care of you.

Hugs,
Lucy

Hi Joy...

Dr. Wallace did my lap RNY on 11/17. Everything went great. I saw Dr Wallace today for my 3 week check up... I'm down 18 pounds... he said I was doing great and gave me a couple tips to drop the pounds a little faster. He encouraged me to get my meal schedule down to 3 meals a day instead of the 6 small meals. He also explained to me why we should not drink for 1/2 hour before and a 1/2 hour after... I could never repeat what he said but I know now that I should not drink around meals... its something that has been hard for me.

I'm happy for you.. please let us know how you're doing!

Now you have me wondering exactly what Dr. Wallace said about not drinking before and after our meals?!?!

How are you feeling? I see you are 3 weeks out.

Congratulations Joy!

What great news!  The IVC filter is a piece of cake.  I have one too.  I had multiple pulmonary emboli back in 2002 so I had one installed before my surgery.

I made it through my surgery with flying colors and no problems with clots.  I was a little nervous about the previous clot history, but my surgeon put my mind at ease.

You will have an exciting month ahead of you!  Fasten your seatbelt and prepare yourself for a wild and wonderful ride.

Hi Joy!

Ok... I will try to convey what Dr. Wallace said about drinking fluid before and after meals.

He said that the food in our pouch is only broken down in the pouch. From there it goes into the small intestine which it is where the food  (and medications, etc) is absorbed. We need for the food to digest in the pouch before it gets to the small intestine. When we drink water with the meal it forces the food into the small intestine too quickly which impacts the absorbsion of the calories, vitamins, medication, etc.  He said it was important the let the pouch do its job before its handed over to the small intestine.

Sorry if it doesn't make sense... but I left his office knowing that I will be better off following the rules.

Hope it helps... ~Marci

Hey Joy congrats on your date :) And if I could I have a question? I am going to Kane Center on December 17 for the seminar. How long did it take you to get through all your appointments with them. I know they require several meetings etc?  I already have my insurance approval, I was just wondering how they space the scheduling for their stuff :) Thanks

Hi-

Thanks for the congrats!! Once my insurance approved the surgery, it was more my schedule that spaced the appointments out.  I was approved in October and began all my appointments then.  I had the majority of my appointments in October and November.  So-I would say about 1-2 months.  Once it started rolling, it did go by quickly!

They require a doctor's consult, psychologist appointment, pulmonologist appointment, dietician, a support group session, Ultrasound of abdomen, I had to have a sleep study, and once you get the date you have to have pre-surgical testing completed.  Everyone was very accomodating with the appointments.  I just had to work around my work schedule.

It went quicker than I thought.

At least you have your insurance approval, that is half the battle!!

Good luck!-I think that you will be impressed with the Kane Center!!!
