Saturday Roll Call

Good morning Illinois,

Wow........I'm actually here and no one has started roll call yet???

I hope you are all fine, warm and still tucked in bed as it is cold cold cold here!!!!!

I made it through a very difficult week. My friend's funeral was Wednesday.  I want to thank you all for your kind words, prayers, love and support.

It was very busy week with my granddaughters.  My daughter loves her new job and Earl & I are adjusting to ours of being full time (6:30 am to 6:30 pm) sitters, chauffeurs, boo-boo fixers etc....
Cheyanne had her first sleep over last night at church with her girls youth group. so Sami had to have a sleepover at Nana & Papa's.  It was her first night here alone without her sister.  I was afraid she wouldn't stay all night since she is such a mama's girl.  But she fell asleep on the couch at 10pm and is still asleep so it was a very good night!

Today is our 30th Annual Cookie Bake Party and Cookie Exchange.  I started hosting this the year my daughter Jen turned one.  Some years we have had as many as 25 people baking and decorating, family and friends. This year there will be just 7-8 of us, as my son-in-laws family decided to skip it due to various reasons.  Oh well, I kind of expected it with the pending divorce.  It will be different without Char ( my friend who passed away)  here too, but I will bring a tray of cookies to David  (her husband).  One of the things I like best about the Cookie party is that I can bake all the wonderful kinds I love to make and give them all away.  My share of the goodies get put in the freezer and I do trays for our neighbors and family who couldn't attend.  I love spending the time with my daughter & her girls, her friends and their children and my friends and their children or grands as the case may be.  Whether its a big crowd or a small crowd it gets us all in the Christmas Spirit.

Well time to get the first cuppa coffee........then get in baker/decorator mode LOL!

Have a great weekend, Hugs, Paulette

Good Morning Paulette!

I'm up and about.  Doing some last minute things before Calvin and I head to downtown Chicago.  We rented a hotel for the next two days at the Drake.  I'm so looking forward to some time away from the everyday crap.  Other then it being frigid cold, we should have a great time.

So I saw the endocrenologist on Tuesday and they did some more blood work.  I got a call Thursday from the nurse to let me know that I did test positive for the auto immne disorder, Hoshimoto's Disease.  Although not thrilled, I do feel releived that the fatigue, weight gain, achy joints, intolerence to cold is not in my head.  All systems of thyroid disease.  I sorta thought one of my doctors was blowing it off and he even told me if I was not happy I could find another doctor.  I'm glad I have some answers.

I had a full day yesterday with appointments.  I had my annual physical with my family doc.. then my foot Dr appointment.  He said he needs to remove the screw he put in the right foot which is probably the pain I'm constantly having.  He wants me to wait until March to have it removed because that will give it a few more months of healing..  It's been a full year since I had the surgery.  I had no idea it was still healing.  So, it looks like I'll be havig the left foot surgery in March and at the same time, they will remove one of the screws in my right foot.  I then had to go to Dr. R's office and get my B12 shot.  I should be all set other then scheduling my mamogram,

I hope everyone has a great weekend.. I will not be on line so I'll check back in probably Monday evening.  Take care my friends and stay warm

Hello everyone

I made it to work in one piece.  It didn't snow that much (2-3 inches) but the roads were terrible.  If I didn't need the money so much I wouldn't have bothered to come into work today.  There is only 2 of us here.  I think most people will stay home.  I was so tempted to turn around and go back to my nice warm bed.  I was going to go pick up my Secret Santa gift but I decided not to.  I'm going straight home after work.

Christina-  I'm glad you finally got answers.  I'm going to look up Hoshimotos right after this.  Hope you feel beeter soon and get treatment (if there is treatment).  your weekend sounds wonderful.  One of these days I will do something like that.

Paulette-   My sympathies to you and your friends family.  We do something similar at work with our cookies.  Yummy!!!

Well I will get back to work.  Have a nice day

Hi Crystal -

Glad you're at work and safe..  We don't pay full price for anything.  Calvin went on-line and bid on the room.  We do that often when traveling and get great deals on hotel and car rental.  We tried it once with airline and it was a disaster so will not use it to fly.

I just started meds today so hopefully this will help.  I was talking to the nurse w/ my family doc as well as the nurse w/ Dr. R's practice and they both said I should feel much better within a few days!  That quick?  Wow.  So, I am excited to at least think that I may start feeling normal again soon.  I have no known nogels ( I don't know if I spelled that right ) or goiters showing on my neck so hopefully this will be treated with meds and I wont have to have the thyroid removed.  Both my mother and sister have had to have theirs removed.  Of course I had to thank my mother once again for the lovely genes she past on to me.  LOL

I think the cookie get together at Paulette's sounds awsome.  I'm not sure I could trust myself to be good.

Be safe going home and thanks for the warm wishes.

Hi Paulette, Christina and IL friends!

WOW, waking up to snow. Ughh! I was already out and shoveling and it's coming down again. It's so cold out there too.

I'm tired after last night's party at the Wildfire restaurant. Today I'm visiting with my sister and then later on, our ex President of the homeowners association.

Paulette, I am so sorry for your loss. It's very difficult to deal with it especially around the holidays.  I used to go to Cookie exchanges and enjoy making cookie trays to give away.

Christina, I'm glad you got some answers as to why you were feeling the way you did. Happy to hear that you and Calvin are getting some time to yourselves. Hope you have an enjoyable and restful time.

Wishing everyone a safe and stay warm weekend!

Hugs,
Lucy

You do get around.  Is that the Wildfire on Higgins?

We have not been to so many eateries in this area.  When we first came we were silly enough to try and find BBQ similar to Texas BBQ.  Plenty of good BBQ here it is just not the same though.  We had just finished eating at Sweet Baby Ray's and the cashier told us we should try Wildfire.  I thought that was odd.  Is BBQ sauce RNY safe?

Randy

So you have been forgiven?

If you are referring to me about getting around - I do not let moss grow under my feet nor sit at home like a hermit, not my bag.

The girl at SBR's was just suggesting and being friendly that if you liked their BBQ (which I think is crap, other than their sauce) then you would probably like Wildfire. Wildfire is not known for their BBQ but their steaks, chops, prime rib, some seafood and chicken. They have BBQ items but not a whole lot.

BBQ in TX is a different BBQ that is in IL, you really cannot compare them.

BBQ with or with out sauce after RNY is something that each person has to try themselves. What makes one person dump or get sick may not happen to the other person AND something that makes you dump one day might not make you dump the next time that you try it.

You do get around as well but I was talking to Lucy.  I like reading about where all you folks are going with your post op thinner selves.  I especially like it when I actually know where the palces are since I am pretty close to homebound most of the time. It takes a real effort and a lot of planning to get me up and out.  DW had SBR's rib tips and liked them.  For my taste it is like Chinese roast pork which is much less expensive.

What I am finding here as well is that there are several different kinds of BBQ here.  Hecky's in Evanston is my favorite so far here.  I like BBQ joints that you know are BBQ joints before you see them.  I found Hecky's because I smelled it on the way to the lake.

Randy,
Try Smoques on 38th and Kedzie in the city. It was on the food channel Diners, Dives and I forgot the other part of the name with Guy Heira.
Anyway I think it is on 38th and Kedzie. I went with my sister and my family a few months ago.
I had BBQ Chicken and took off the skin. Carla
