Long, long struggle
It's been a REALLy long time since I've been here. I was banded in May 2004. I lost roughly 50 pounds in just under a year... and then became pregnant. I gained it back, and then have struggled ever since.
I'm kind of a mess right now. I'm still 30 pounds lower than my highest-ever, but not at a good, healthy weight. Most of the weight that I lost after getting banded was because I had to stay on liquids and soft foods after a too-tight banding... then was throwing up my daily meds (including the Pill), which is how my son Benjamin came about! (Uh, Oops! I'd been planning to wait longer to have another baby, but he's so precious who can argue?)
The last time I got adjusted, I figure it was at a decent enough level, and I was good about following instructions after the band. But I PB a lot, even sometimes on liquids...other times, I can eat a small regular meal without any issues.
I know I need to go back for an adjustment, but I'm so depressed about this whole thing. The problem is, I was never a big binge eater. I have a lousy metabolism, bad immune system, and I'm not disciplined about exercise. I don't drink much at all, but I do like sweet and savory treats. Even when I'm "perfect," I don't see much in the way of results, so I get really frustrated.
And then, just two days ago, my husband basically told me he's not attracted to me because of my weight. He was careful about it and sensitive to how painful it was for me to hear, but it's still crushing me.
Has anyone here been going through this sort of thing? I don't know about anything anymore. Your advice would be very, very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
J
I haven't had my surgery yet so I really can't comment on your struggles to lose weight. Except I want to say good luck and I hope your long struggle ends.
I just wanted to say I understand your feelings about your husband's confession about you. I had the same thing happen to me and it was crushing and humiliating. I was very self conscience about myself around him and made it difficult to be intimate with him. I was so hard on myself (we're our own worst critics). If you need to talk or vent I'm here for you.
You need to find a doctor that can follow you up from CA to IL. I am not an expert on the band but do know enough that I think that you need to go in and see if you need a fill or you have some sort of a mechanical problem. Have you looked into a doc that can follow you up here in the Chgo area? Or get in contact with your doctor in CA and ask if someone at his office has a recommendation. Here also is a search engine where you can go to search for a doctor that will follow up a patient that had surgery with another doctor. Put your zip code in for info http://www.asmbs.org/html/about/membersearch2.html There are doctors in the Evanston, Skokie, western 'burbs and north side of Chgo areas.
Not to be a person to point a finger but a person that has had the band can "eat around their surgery" You do not malabsorb any calories and therefore you can drink or eat sweets to your heart's content. You did mention that you like sweets.
