My Doctor Suggested I Have Lap Band Surgery

I guess I never realized how heavy I really allowed myself to get, until I was at the doctor and weighed in at 293.  My doctor suggested lap band surgery. I was like what ???? I'm not that big.....AM I? Reality check! I AM!!! I'm 5'10 293 pounds  with a BMI of 41. I'm pre-diabetic, high blood pressure, insomnia, body pain and bladder incontience. I have gained 129 pounds  in the last 10 years. Thats roughly 12 pounds per year, and like 50 in the last year. Not to mention thats pictures and mirrors are a NO NO!!! So tomorrow I call a doctor, already called my insurance and its covered. I met the requirements. I have medicare. I'm excited and scared.

I have a few questions for anyone reading this....... Does anyone have medicare? I hear its fast process with medicare. Also how long is the hospital stay and recovery time? Thanks to all and good luck :)

Hi, and welcome to the Illinois board.  I do not have medicare, but I among others on this board have the lapband, and I love mine. Even with Medicare, I know you still have all the pretesting to do. Phych eval, nutrionist, heart eval, and anything else your Dr. wants. He may even want a 6 month diet.

My hospital stay was overnight, and I went back to work 10 days  later.

Make sure you go to the lap band forum, you can get a lotta questions answered there. Just remember, these are our opinions, and your doctor is your best source to answer all questions.
