Am I the only guy???
Hi from ILL.
My name is casey. I hope to have RNY surgery as soon as I figure out how to do the 6 month diet to keep bcbs happy.
I am an over the road truck driver, and gone a couple of weeks at a time. I am gonna talk to WW, but I dont know if that will do the trick.
Anyway I just wanted to say hi... and I will be excited for any ideas or help anybody could throw my way.
Thanks
Casey

Hi Casey.
BCBS generally wants a doctor supervised 6 months diet. If I were you I would call them (BCBS) to see exactlly what they will or will not except! Also ask them to send you a list of required things before they will approve you. I have BCBS/Iowa, my hubby is an over the road truck driver too. Good luck, and best wishes for a quick approval!

Hello Casey, nice to "meet" you!
You are not the only guy. Paul and Randy are pretty regular on here and we have a couple others that stop by occasionally (Barry----where are you?)
Contact BCBS and find out what they want. For me, they wanted a doctor's visit once a month, every month. It could not be less than 20 some days since the last one and no more than 33 or so for the next one. At each visit, you need to make sure that the doctor documents your weight, meal plan, exercise and how you are doing with these things. They like it if you try medication, but if the medicine is not a good fit (driving on speed......) the doctor must document WHY it is contra-indicated for you to try medication to lose weight.
Some people have gotten by with WW, but BCBS really wants a doctor visit. Many people have been approved on the first try lately, so BCBS must finally be "getting it".
Welcome to the board, and good luck!

HI
My hubby is going to have surgery in about 6 weeks. I just had it on the 29th. We have BCBS HMO and neither of us had to do an approved diet before hand. Our surgeon reccomended that hubby do a few weeks liquid protein to shrink the liver but thats all and its in part because he is a larger size (420 and slowly shrinking) I know its hard being a trucker My whole family is. Hubby has a desk job and its just a tuff cause you never move. Good luck and definately call bcbs and find out exactly what you need.
Best of Luck

Hi Casey! I'm sorry I didn't post sooner, I was out of touch for a few days. There has been a trend of early approvals lately, and I wish you luck on that one. I agree with everyone else in that you want to work closely with both the insurance and the doctor so you don't end up doing a whole bunch of stuff in the wrong direction. The good news is that you will probably start losing weight just from being in the mind set of going forward. I lost 10 pounds just before my lapband without even trying. The biggest thing to know is that you will be changing your relationship with food forever. That isn't just a function of surgery, but also a function of realigning your life towards a healthy future. The surgery makes it a whole lot easier because it removes a good amount of the ability to over eat. This board as well as many other support groups out there, will become your safe haven for learning how to eat correctly, how to deal with head hunger, and how to process many life changes that come from redirecting your life towards health. Good luck and enjoy the trip! From one of the other guys on the board!
Paul
