Guess what my hubby told me??

I went to the grocery store yesterday and spent $200 on food for the next 1 1/2 to 2 weeks for a family of 5, with me being the only female and the rest being guys who eat a lot.  I didn't think that was bad.  Well Mike, my hubby, told me that I needed to start eating unhealthy again because it was cheaper!  We can't afford healthy food because it's more expensive!!
Can you believe that?  I was furious.  I often wonder if my losing weight and gaining self confidence and feeling good about myself is threatening to him.  It should be actually, he's been a real ass lately and it's depressing me big time.
I just couldn't believe he told me that and the thing is he WAS NOT kidding!  he was ticked off at me

thats a decent grocery bill if you ask me!!  i spend $150 a week on me, hubby, and 3 small kids.  and the small ones don't eat all that much.  i have noticed the same thing though, it costs more to feed me!  you'd think grocery stores would do something.  everyone is up in arms about childhood obesity and obesity in general but the prices for food thats actually healthy is so high!!  sorry that your hubby was such a jerk to say that to you!

you are right about childhood obseity being on the rise and I have a son who is over weight.  I am trying to help him eat healthier too, but it's hard for a kid to resist the crappy stuff when it's in the house, so I don't buy it.  I buy healthier choices.  Mike has never had a weight problem in his life and his son probably won't either so he has NO idea.  Having 3 boys, with one of them a teenager and in sports, costs a lot to feed.  Healthy or not...that's just my opinion though

Monica, my first reaction after reading this was , screw you buster. My second reaction was, ok, YOU do the food shopping next time. Don't help him at all, then when he gets home with "unhealthy" foods, ask him what the meal plans are for the time frame. And don't remind him that food costs have gone up between 25 and 100 % in the last few months.
My DH has done that at times, now he doesn't say a word. Maybe because he works at a store.

Lisa, if  he did the grocery shopping himself he would come home with hamburger helper, frozen pizza, chicken nuggets and all sorts of other processed foods and chips and cookies and crap like that.  I know this because after my surgery and while I was in the hospital and recovering that is all the kids complained about, how ****ty they were eating!  I have a son who is over weight and I try to watch it, but that doesn't help at all!
It's making me crazy!

All I can say is I'm sorry.  That is a terrible thing to say.  You can't put a price on health.  Tell him it will cost more in the long run.  Even with insurance -doctor visits, blood pressure meds, diabetes supplies and other meds will end up costing more than what you are paying for helathy food.  Don't let him bully you into eating badly.

Do you shop at Woodmans they are pretty cheap.  You can do some shopping at Aldi too.

I hear my married friends talk about things like this and it  makes me happy I'm single.

If you ever need someone to talk to or just need to vent I'm always here.

Thank you Crystal for the kind words.  I shop where the sales are and I use coupons too!  I know that money is tight and he acts like it's my fault that food costs so much.  What I should do is make the correct serving sizes and not let him eat 2 or 3 servings at dinner!!  Then he'll see what it's like to only have one serving.  He eats a TON of food and of course dinner is the most expensive because I cook from scratch.  oh well.  We also have a night that we only do leftovers so there's no waste.  VERY rarely does food get tossed here.

Monica I am with Lisa send his A$$ to the store, and I would tell him he can also fix all the meals on what he buys and you just shop for your self,
But like Lisa said   the cost of food has gone up so much and to eat healthier does cost so much more,
Good luck and don't get to Depressed it is not go for you.
Take care,

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

but Nancy I don't want my boys eating all that crap either.  One is super physically fit and into all the sports and Jacob, which some of you have met, is already battling weight issues.  When Mike shopped and cooked when I couldn't, all they ate was crap.  My boys complained about how they were eating.  They aren't used to that.
I am honestly surprised I don't have an ulcer yet either....sad as that sounds

MEN! They are such dumbrearends some times. I would just tell him to shut up or HE CAN buy & fix his own food and you will feed the family. Besides.....it's not like the amount of food you are eating even touches the crap going in his mouth with his oversize servings. So tell him to quit being a pig and you won't need to buy so much food. LOL

You are doing great and keep it up!
