Came Home from the Hospital Yesterday
Good morning IL friends. I was way too tired yesteday afternoon to post.
I went to Alexian Brothers Medical Center ER on Monday afternoon, as I had a lot of pain on my right upper side while at work. I only drank liquids in the morning and was sitting at my desk ready for lunch and wam, severe pain! After an hour of this pain continuing, I called the office. Katy the PA called me back and I told her how I was feeling and she told me to go to the ER to be evaluated.
Well, I was in the ER by 3 pm and got admitted for observation close to 11 pm. They did blood tests and a CT scan of the abdomen. THe CT scan showed some fluid around the dead portion of my stomach (I think that's what it said). They gave me a lot of IV pain med through the night. No sleeping though. I hate that about hospitals.
I didn't see Dr. Guske but Dr. Wallace came in around 12:30. He told me that my CT was normal and asked me what I ate that day and the day before. Since the pain was gone and I was able to tolerate clear liquids, he discharged me. Telling the nurse I was ready to go home, she told me that Dr. Wallace said I had to stay until I could tolerate a soft diet. I told her then I would order something and then go home. She said how about a half of a sandwich. I said no, as I just finished my liquid lunch. I checked the menu and ordered cottage cheese. That went down with no problems, so I was discharged shortly after 2 pm.
Originally the pain was so severe, I didn't know what to do. I thought something was going on with my band. At this point, I am so ready to just get it removed. I miss my RNY days. I don't like the slimming and throwing up. I can't tolerate many foods; but the not so nutritional ones, I can eat without
.
I am seeing Dr. Guske on Friday and will discuss this with him.
So I am back among the living!
Hugs,
Lucy

Hi Lisa. Thanks for your thoughts on my pain. My concern was that the pain was sudden onset and severe. To me, that doesn't equate to a stomach flu.
I've been having issues with my band. Now it's time to discuss them with Dr. Guske. I miss my RNY days so much. I think the band is harder to adjust to. Maybe I made a mistake by having one.
Hugs,
Lucy
