Hi Dee (and Monica!):
We have a Christmas craft project every year that we give as gifts to friends and family.
This year will be candles.
In the past, we have done the fleece blankets (where you tie two pieces of fleece together).
Last year, we made night lights. I got night lights at the dollar store, and glued on the small sea shells from our Florida trip (but the craft stores sell them by the bag). We also used some of the bigger scallop ones. In that case, we just removed the plastic shade and hot-glued the big scallop shell in place. (When in Folrida, these sold for $10 and up!) I suppose you could use any other small objects or sequins to cover the shades with as well. Different buttons would be kind of cool.
We have made home made ornaments with the clear balls. You swish diluted glue into them then pour in glitter and shake until coated. You can then apply decals to the outside. Michael's has a bunch of ideas for these. You can also use glass paints on them. Add a pretty bow and you are done!
One year, we did a little twist on the traditional "goodie" basket. I got large bowls in red and green at Olde Time Pottery (but the dollar store probably has something suitable). We made some home made brownies and cookies, and also filled with microwave popcorn and candy bars for a movie basket. We added a certificate to the local video store also (just for one rental, but I put that in so that they would know it was movie-themed). Wrapped them up with cellophane (again from the dollar store) and a big bow. Very impressive for less money.
This idea also works for coffee mugs. Get a bunch (again from the dollar store.....see a trend here?) and some cellophane. Add some instant coffee or cocoa and some biscotti or cookies.
I have also done centerpieces.
Wine charms are fun and inexpensive. Beaded keychains too.
There are a few ideas to get you started.
Have fun and let me know how it turns out!
