I have just been hanging out here in my apartment above the trees. Wandered all the way out to the balcony three times so far.  Watching the shows on the computer that I missed this week while watching other shows.  Sherry is losing more than I am at the moment.  I do not like to wander far when I am taking diuretics.  A year out seems like forever at the moment but I would still hope my body eventually speeds down on the scale.

So you have been forgiven?

Hi Guys in Illinois,

I finally have gotten approved for my RNY but now have the difficult task of saving up enough PTO time at work so I can schedule my surgery.  My asthma i****ting me really hard this time of year and I am tied to taking breathing treatments 4 times a day and lots of steroids.  I HATE asthma and what it does to me.  Anyone have insite to how much better my asthma will be after WLS?  I really get depressed because of it.

Have plans to go to Jonemac Haunted Corn Maze this weekend and hopefully the asthma won't interfere.  It's a little warm now but it should cool off.  Everyone, have a great weekend.    Bea

Hi Bea,

Welcome and congratulations on getting approved for surgery.

I have asthma also. It was something that came on in my mid 20's after having children. I cannot say that WLS has helped me. It has been 2 months since I had episode.

I can relate to feeling depressed about asthma. It can hit at anytime, I won't go anywhere without my inhaler. Also the with the steroids ( which I have had to do at times) you get all puffed up and hungry always.

I do know the Kane center doctors will have you see a pulmonologist, they will test your breathing. I was given a breathing treatment before surgery and offered it daily after.

It is hard to breathe after surgery and use of spirometer is needed when awake to help clear the lungs.

A question, have you done the sleep study?

Well hang in there and follow your doctors advice, and soon you should be in good shape for surgery.

Hi Bea-and welcome and congrats on your approval.  I too, am asthmatic and also have COPD.  I haven't had a serious episode in a year and now do not need continuous 02-only at night.  I have some shortness of breath at times, but no where near like what I was pre-surgery.  I still need my rescue inhaler at times and I have to keep a portable tank w/me in case, but the difference is amazing.  You'll still be susceeptible to your triggers, but your lung function will improve as the strain is lessened.  I had to be carefully monitored during and after the op, spent 36 hrs. in ICU, but that was more cautionary than necessary.  The Kane center will make sure you're watched carefully and the pulmo docs are top-notch.  Good luck and Hugs-Janet K

Good Evening Christine and Illinois!

I am bringing up the tail end tonight.  It has been a busy day for me.  I slept in this morning -- it felt sooooo good!  Then lounged awhile with the cats giving them individual snuggle time.  Then got up, showered and went to the hospital to get my 6 month labs drawn.  I think the lab tech had never drawn any labs like this before.  She finally looked up at me and said "What doctor is ordering all of these tests?"

After the tests I came home and had brunch, then went off to a hair appointment.  Came back home and tried to convince Claude that he really belonged inside.  Finally he submitted to being caught.  I then headed out to WalMart to do my weekly grocery/misc shopping.  Got home, got things put away, read the paper, ate supper and here I am.    Tomorrow is another day.
