Is this normal

I had my surgery 8/21 so I am 5 weeks out and have lost 26 pounds but for the last two weeks I have fluctuated with the same 2 pounds.  I know that my clothes feel bigger and I was thinking maybe I was losing inches and gaining muscle because I am exercising.  I was thinking of calling my dr. because I just thought that in the beginning I would be losing consistently.

Thanks for any help/advice........

Hi Patti -
Some friendly advice...  Step away from the scale my friend.  You are doing great.. Sometimes our body has to take a break or adjust.  With you just being 5 weeks out, your body is probably trying to figure out what the heck your doing to it.  Just keep doing what your doing.  And no, you are not always going to consistently lose.  You could be losing inches.

Congrats on your surgery.

In a word yes. I think all RNY patients go through this. I know I did but my clothing started getting huge on me. Your body is just trying to figure out what has happened to it with the reduction of calories, the shock to it with the surgery and now you are exercising also. You can call your doctor but I think he will just tell you what I did above. Your new tool has not stopped working, you are fine.

My biggest recommendation to you is to put the scale away and not get on it for a long time. Many people rely only on their doctor's scale. Follow your eating, exercise and life style changes that you are to be doing and you will be rewarded with the #s coming off.

I see you live in Oak Forest and had your surgery with Dr. Cahill.  I live in Country Club Hills and am planning on having Dr. Cahill do my surgery also.  I haven't seen him yet, but have talked to Tony.  What are your feelings about these people?
