Struggling Today

I'm 3 wks post op rny and struggling today.  I've had a slow recovery as I had bleeding post op (in hosp) and ended up getting a blood transfusion and in hosp 6 days post op (though was lucky I did not have to go back to the OR to stop the bleeding).

I saw the surgeon yesterday and it seems I likely I now have a stricture which we're treating with Nexium and returning to liquids/ puree foods hoping to avoid the scope and stretching of the stoma.  I'm tired of throwing up 1-2x per day (though it's been better today on only liquids) and am already sick of the protien drinks.

I'm beginning to wonder why I did this to myself and have only lost 16 lbs.  The recovery is much harder than I anticipated.  I am supposed to return to work Monday but now docs think another week off would be beneficial to my health but I'm just not sure my job will withstand another week off.  Anyone been through similar complications and gotten better?  I could use some hope right now.

My sister had a stricture, was scoped, dialated and is now doing fine 2 years later. It will happen for you. Unfortuantely a stricture is a common complication. I am sorry that it happened to you. You will get better soon.

oh sweetie, boy do I understand where you are coming from.  I had my original surgery Lap RNY on March 24th of this year.  Came home on day 4 post op and on day 4 at home, I knew something was wrong.  Ended up in the ER and being readmitted for a blockage.  I was in the hospital for an entire week before they decided that they would need to go back in and fix me up.  They had to open me up the second time around.  I was in the hospital another week after surgery.  Took me 2 1/2 months at home before I felt like I was never going to get better.  Now here I am 6 months out and it's all great.  Never had any more problems and have lost 77 lbs.
You will do fine!!  If you ever want to talk, PM me and I will give you my phone number.  I literally thought I was dying and had my entire funeral and kids futures planned out.  I thank God every day for sparing me.  Please know that things will get better, stay around here and you will do okay.
The ladies and gents on this board also helped save my life, they are turly angels!
