Good morning Paul and Illinois

Happy Friday eve!  Can you tell I like weekends?

Paul, I am sorry you had such a bad day yesterday.  I hate days like that.  They are so frustrating.

Monica, nursing may be a wonderful career as far a job opportunities.  The pay is great and the jobs are plentiful.  The big difference is the patients can do a lot more complaining.

I finally got my car back last night.  Enjoyed the loaner car -- a Grand Prix which was what I drove before my arthritis decided my body just could not crawl in and out of one of those on a daily basis.  They sure are fun to drive!

No big plans for today.  Just the usual.  Hopefully my customers will be in a good mood.  Otherwise I will want to be .

Have a great day!

Goo.d morning Illinois,

I think if anyone needs to have an animal live long they just need to give it to us.  Our latest is a fighting fish DD got for her dorm room and we inherited.  It is turning three years old.

I would love to see Monica's smiling face at any office I walked into.

I went to my nuts office yesterday for my second visit.  Saw a new nut and a new PA.  Last time I saw a nut and a NP that both understood the protein type and that exrecise has it's place and time.  This time the nut was more into exercise than nuts and had a PT certificate on her wall.  Then the PA started in with taking walks.  I asked if she wanted to triple my gabepentin and also explained what Dr. Gus and Taubes had to say about exercise.  She did not know of either one of them.  They were both very pleasant and professional but I worry that I got negative marks for not believeing the eat a lot of fruit(sugar) and work it off with exercise dogma.

Good morning Paul!

By now, you are probably in Milwaukee straightening out the mess.  I hope it all works out for you.  I also hope you have a better food day.

My car broke down on the highway (in the dark) this morning.  Luckily, I have a co-worker who lives out by me and he stopped when he saw me sitting there waiting for Todd.  He chastised me for not calling him in order to save Todd the trip out there.  Funny thing is that I never even remembered about him until he stopped and came to my window.  Anyway, the mechanic is sending a tow truck out for the vehicle and I am praying that it is not a major problem.  Heck, we just got done paying for the last car issues (for Todd's car)!

Not too much else going on (as if that's not enough.....).  Being without the car will make all the running around I usually need to do interesting this evening and maybe into the weekend.  We will just have to see how it all works out.  Unfortunately, my mechanic does not have loaners.

Gotta get back to work after my late start.

Everyone have a splendid day!

Tell someone that you love them!

Good Morning!

Day 4 Liquid diet for me. I am down 12.2 lbs so far & super excited about that. Had my 2 week preop visit yesterday.

Ok now - I am scared crapless. I was just reading on teh VSG board that someone whom had the VSG 3 weeks aog just died. This is so sad & scary. Makes me put my life in check. But it's a scary thought & that fear of dying is with me more now than ever.

Congrats on the weight loss!  Now stop and breath!  We are obeste people with many many health issues.  The surgeries that we have are time tested and completely safe.  But surgery in general has some risk.  Those risks can be increased by our other health issues.  But that's why we have good doctors with protocals to judge our health and the safety of the proceedure.  It is also why we do things like the liquid diets in preperation for our surgeries.  I don't know the statistics for VSG, but overall WLS has less than a 2% complication rate.  I use to work with one of the founding surgeons of gastric bypass and he only did the open version (this was before lapriscopic was perfected) and the only patients he ever lost were the extremely high risk cases where their life expectancy was very very poor without the surgery.  That and folks who did not take care of themselves with proper follow up.  So if you follow your doctor's instructions, the risks are minimal.  There are thousands upon thousands of examples of success on the boards every day.  Good luck and we'll see you on the loosers bench in two weeks!

Howdy, everyone, it is afternoon and I am at work. I just can't beleive how things have changed. I am looking into taking motorcycle lessons and targer shooting. I am single and it will be hard to find a man that can keep up with me now. I am 49 and really enjoying life. Men my age say that they are to old, can you imagine that I am doing it and they are to old and we are the same age. Go figure! I have lost 110 since April 1st well 17 was before surgery. I can't beleive that it is me!

Good Afternoon!

Today is a sunny day Hurray!  My cubbies won again last night, Hurray again!

I am doing better in the food dept. this week.  Last week when I went to my surgery follow up class, I learned alot of tricks in kinds of foods to try and they seem to be working.  My new favorite thing is soy protein stuff. ( yes that is the technical name!  LOL!)  I think they are called Mornigstar.  I have tried the course crumbles ( aka like ground beef) and the breakfast egg florentine bites, ( I had to share them with Brigid this morning, she loves them too!) It all seems to stay down and the taste is good.  It has good protein in them and doesnt get stuck.  Another Hurray!

I am looking forward to Dawn's tye dye party on Saturday.  It should be a fun day!

Paul are you still going to tye dye your drapes?  LOL!!!  I might bring a sheet or two just for fun!

Monica,
I say go for the nursing!  Speaking from experience, there is so many ways you can go with a nursing degree.  You are never too old to go to school.  I do have to let you know that it wont be easy, I went back to school at 27, I was single, and lived on my own and graduated when I was 30.  For those 3 yrs I did not see my family or friends except at the holidays.  Nursing school is tough!!  I dont know how people with families made it thru.  That is not to discourage you at all, just to be honest.  Im sure if you really want to do it, I know it will be worth it in the end!  I did a weekend and evening program and worked full time during the day.  If you have any questions, let me know, I would be happy to help in any way I can.  I too started out wanting to be an oncology nurse, and ended up in the NICU as a new grad, and never left!  I am thinking of returning to nursing as a hospice nurse, I always like to feel like I am really doing something to help others and even though it is a sad time in people's lives, if you can do anything to make it even a little bit easier it is worth it.  In my opinion.  I say if you really want it GO FOR IT!

The rest of today is getting the boys ready to go camping for the weekend and laundry.  The never ending always multiplying laundry.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good afternoon everyone,

finally a busy day for me, I saw Dr kane today and he removed the JP drain. I have to wait another week to remove the last drain. This is also the one that pains me. Soon all will be a memory right?

Good news is I lost 10 pounds! and I kept my proteins up daily so i am hoping that is mostly FAT loss.

It was nice to be able to drive myself somewhere. I went to market to pick up few items.  Eileen, that soy protein stuff it is called Crumbles by Morningstar , and I use it in many meals for my family, they cannot tell the difference really and its so much better for us, and very conveinient as you can use a little at a time.

Monica, you are a wonderful people person, patients would be lucky to have you take care of them. Best wishes to you on whatever you decide.

Nancy - glad you got your car back.
Paul - hope you had nice easy ride up to Milwaukee and back
I bought my chubby chihuahua a harness collar today. It was necessary as he stands so firm and will not walk , if I pulled his previous collar it would slip off his neck. No more of that. We are going to walk, both of us chubbies need it.

Cathy,

Im so glad to hear you are feeling better and that at least on drain is out.  I only had one, and that one stayed in for about 3 weeks cause it kept draining.  It felt so good to get it out.

Good for you and your dog, both getting in shape at the same time.  I walk with my 2 yr old and boy does she keep me going!  She never wants to stop, sometimes I have to drag her inside.

I remember feeling good enough to drive and finally being independant again,  It was a great feeling.  Yes, it will all be a distant memory!

Keep up the great work on the wt loss!  You are doing awesome!
