Someone told me today that a website called centers for excellence or something of that sort would help me find ALL  hospitals that work with medicaid. I can't for the life of me remember th name though. Anyone here know it???!

You will need to contact the doctors and hospitals to see if they take medicaid.

most all hospitals take medicaid, but medicaid may only pay if you go to a center of excellence for bariatic surgery - it a a designation some hospitals have aquired and some not. they need to meet certain standards and pay a substantial amount of money for the designation. Hospitals that have not recieved the designation may be meeting the standards but just not paid the fees to the organization that gives the designation.

the real trick is finding a doctor who is willing to do the surgery and all the followup that is required for the slim amount of reimbursement medicaid pays out.

All Hospitals take Medicaid, however all surgeons do not. Unfortunately without a surgeon accepting medicaid, a hospital does you no good. The only facilities I am aware of with surgeons that take medicaid for surgical weight loss in the chicagoland area are Mercy hospital for the Lap Band, and for the gastric bypass is UIC. I am told by several people who have tried, that their waiting list is up to 10 years.

If you have both Medicaid with Medicare Part A&B primary, you can find a center of excellence by visiting the medicare website. Just understand that Medicare Part B covers your surgeon at 80%, and if they are not accepting medicaid as your secondary, you will be required to pay that additional 20%. It is my understanding that runs anywhere from $500-$700, but don't quote me on that since different surgeons have different fees.

Hope this helps

Maria
