Good Morning!!

Not too much going on today, but both the boys have Soccer practice tonight. I am also trying to talk my hubby into stopping at Toys R Us after work since they are closing, and everything is 20-40% off right now. My oldest wants a Nintendo DS and a Speed Racer game for Christmas, and I would LOVE to get one on sale
We are also trying to convince my hubby into getting a puppy. My friend has one that she is giving away with everything because she doesn't feel she has enough time for him. He is already neutered, micro chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. She works at a local shelter, so she said she would finish up his vaccinations for us too! Can't beat that! The boys would LOVE to have a puppy, and I think my hubby is going to cave, I'll keep you posted. lol

The weekend was busy! We went to a wedding on Friday night, had 2 soccer games on Saturday, which the boys did AWESOME in, so I took them to Chuck E Cheese Saturday night. We just hung out at home all day yesterday.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Good Morning Everyone!

What can I say, but the weekend was wonderful.  I did the usual housework and homework, but I did go shopping on saturday with a friend up at Pleasant Prairie Outlet Mall.  I made out like a bandit at Anne Taylors, as they were having a 30% off your entire purchase sale.  So I hit the clearance racks.  I hit my goal weight this past Thursday of 160 lbs, so anything after this is just icing on the cake.  I had an amazing wow moment last night, my hubby was folding the laundry and I was helping him.  I grabed a pair of jeans and he I was looking at the tag thinking that they were mine, but they were his.  I wondered if I could wear them so I pulled them on, and yes I can get in my hubby's pants.  It was amazing

Paul, I bet the driveway looks amazing.

Monica, sounds like you had fun at the dog show but owwie with the sunburn.

Lucy, I should have came to support group but I was up so late on friday night with school work it takes alot for me to get out of bed before 10am.

Well take care everyone.

Good Morning ILLINOIS!

Well today I started my 2 week preop diet. So far so good but then again it's only 10am. I am prepared. I have my big bottle of water sitting here. I am still sipping my protein shake for breakfast. It was pretty good size. Lunch will be a protein shake also. I brought some chicken broth instant packet with me and some sugar free jello. I also took all my measurements last night of everything that I could measure and I weighed in on my scale this morning. Ugh! I have of course gained a few pounds since I saw my surgeon last month. I see him on Wednesday for my 2 week preop appt.

I am very excited! Have a great day!

Hello everyone!

I had a very relaxing weekend. I OFFICALLY started my medically managed pre wls program...its rough! No processed foods, no white sugar, flour, rice, bread, potatos! so basically everything i ate is now off limits, im doing pretty well, i just am having a hard time with snack foods. but only 2 more months(hopefully!)  i upped my activity! and  i am very proud to say i havent let temptation win!  it's hard living with family members who don't respect what i am trying to do, Im not saying i want them to follow my diet but for heavens sake don't cook cinnamin rolls while im in the house!!! that was so hard for me not to go and eat.
The little on went off to grandma's yesterday afternoon so i have been relaxing (which is nice and rare) went for a walk ate breakfast, that's really all. I don't know when i will be getting my son back so for the time being its just chill! I saw some friends last night and my best friend was saying how she doesnt think that wls is going to work because she knows someone who had it and they are still "very large" I did point out to my friend that the wls is only a tool and it really depends on the person but she still thinks that im setting myself up for dissapointment. of course this is comming form someone thats as big as my thigh so i think she may just be afraid that i wont be the same after i do all of this. who knows?!

thats all for me, hope everyone is well!!!

Casey,

I know what you mean about your friend,  my sister is the same way.  But she was so rude about it.  She said that people that get the surgery are lazy and could lose the weight if they wanted.  I just told her she needs to read up on the subject because she sounds very uneducated about the subject.   She also said that WLS isn't healthy for you.  At this I pointed out that its FAR more unhealthy to be 340 pounds.

I think that it's just easier for some people to judge, than to educate themselves on the facts.  We just need to remember we know the facts and the risks.

I wish that every person who makes a negative comment on WLS, was forced to live with morbid obesity for 1 year!  Then lets hear what they have to say.  You are right in stating that it is just a tool.  And some people are not ready for that tool and they do slide right back into their old habits and weight.  But many of us do well and use the tool as it was designed.  My ex partner lost over 150 pounds six years ago with RNY and has never gained an ounce back.  I'm down 54 pounds since I was banded in May and have no intention of ever going back up.  That said, I realize that I still have to struggle with what we call "head hunger" from time to time, but that's all part of the process.  Saying that WLS is a waste of time is like saying car repair is a waist.  After all, you'll only have to fix your car again some day, so why bother.  The real friends and loved one's will support you even if they don't understand the process or have fear about it.  I don't know your history or your struggles, but I can say this.  Living with obesity is already a life of dissapointment.  You can only be setting yourself up for success!  Even if you never lose weight (which is not likely), you will be attempting to overcome your struggles.  That alone is noble.  And the fact that you are here, speaks to your strength.  You are going to make it.  It would be nice if your "best friend" could support your efforts instead of trying to subvert them.

When people make negative comments on WLS it burns me up some. First they are usually the ignorant uninformed type and it's sad because I have few co-workers who would likely benefit from the surgery.

My comment was and still is, my diabetes was out of control pre surgery and up until I was discharged. Now it has vanished. I keep checking my blood sugar and numbers are normal without medication.

To me that is huge!!! Sure I hope to lose 118lbs and that will be ongoing, but the fear of diabetic health issues is GONE.

I work with clients that need lifetime meds because of dialysis or transplant, not to mention having friends with family who have had amputations. The RNY surgery I feel saved me from these ills.

*** worst time someone was talking about the WLS around me was in the hospital , when my room mate and her extended family decided to chat about it ( and me)  negatively, saying how really one should just exercise. This as my room mate snacked on pork rinds! ( she was in for some flare, that I do not doubt was serious)  I just plugged my ears up with my IPOD.
Sometimes you cannot waste time educating the ignorant.
And as Dr Kane told me, we (WLS patients) are best example after surgery how we go on to live very healthy happy lives.

Thank you both for the kind words. I don't plan  on trying to change her opinion anytime soon. I figure with my sucess with using the wls as a tool i can just show her how well it works for some people. If i don't change her mind thats fine, she is entitiled to her own opinion i just hope she doesn't treat me differently after this is all said and done with. She defanitly doesnt understand what its like to be a bigger person, and most likely she never will. i do hope that she could try to see from the other side of the fence but i wont go out there and assume everyone has empathy.I most likely wont mention anything else to her until my surgery date is set and tell her she can come see me in the hospital if she would like to. who knows what will happen though. only time will tell.

thanks again
