Anyone else have to start there preop diet soon
I'm suppost to start my preop diet on Wednesday but i'm starting it today because i want to be a head of the game and i have 229 lbs to loss it not going to hurt me. I just would like to know any advice that anyone can give me would help out alot. I have my surgery on October 7 Thank god. And is there anyone else that is going throw this with me right now?
Hi
Best wishes on your surgery! Hang tough on the diet. The first few days are hard, but it does get better after/by the third day. I bought the boxed broth, it was much better tasting and combined the chicken and beef together.
When I got really hungry, I either had sugar free hard peppermint candy or hot tea did the trick. I was also allowed gatorade. sugar free popcicles got me through the urge to crunch on something.
I just focused on my final goal -- sugery. I wanted mine to be lapriscopic and kept telling myself that there was no way on gods green earth that I was going to be opened up and told my liver was too fat to have surgery or that I had to have open surgery. (I had a very bad experience with open gallbladder sugery and 3 years of horrible pain following it)
The biggest surprise for me was I did not weigh myself during the preop diet. When I arrived at the hospital the morning of surgery, they did a weigh in. Ugh! I got on the scales and I had lost 40 pounds
I had to get off the scales, get back on and have them check my chart again. I could not believe it. What an awesome way to start my surgery!
Hang in there, you CAN do this.

Oh we are together! I am starting my preop diet a little early as well. I am starting mine tomorrow and we have surgery that same day! I am nervous about screwing up on the liquid diet but I have to do it! I see my surgeon on Wed for my 2 week preop.
My plan is 3 protein shakes a day, broth, propel water & decaf tea...oh yeah...sf jello too. I am hoping that the 3 protein shakes & water will be enough but maybe not. We will see. I have heard about the withdrawl of carbs & caffeniene can create headaches so be sure to have soem tylenol with you.
Good luck!

I'm currently in my second week of my 2 week preop diet (protein shake breakfast & lunch, and one protein meal for dinner) It's been hard and I have not been perfect, but it does get a little easier as time goes by. I am trying to make my second week much better than the first. I have no advice to give you, just hang in there and drink lots of water. It does help fill you up, and sugar free popsicles if you can! The first few days in sugar/caffeine withdrawal were hell on earth, but you are smart to get a head start on it. Good luck !
