Well, I've been lurking for some time. I'm waiting for approval and I'm getting so antsy.  I've finished my six months with a bariatric doctor and they have submitted. Now we wait.... I had a BMI of 46 when I started and now have a BMI of 36 with comorbidites.

All those what if's keep creeping into my mind. What if they turn me down? What if I've lost too much weight post-op? What if I have the surgery and I don't loose my weight? What if I'm not strong enough to do this everyday for the rest of my life? What if I fail at this just like I failed at all the other weight loss attempts?

Is this normal to feel this way? I sometimes I feel like I'm working at this so hard and of course I've stopped loosing again. So I need this surgery and I deserve this change at a normal life.

So you IL forum members tell me how long from the time you submitted till you heard...
Anyone out there with BCBS MN? Is having these concerns pretty normal.  I keep telling myself it must be.

I look forward to talking to you all.

Hey girl Glad to see you have decided to come out and talk to everyone. Yes all your what if's are real, we all go through them. The time of process is different for all insurances. I have BCBS/Iowa and it took less then 1 week for me to get approved. I did not have to do the 6 mo doc supervised though. I checked into having the lap-band in Nov of 07 and by Dec I was approved. Had a surgery date for dec 27th but that date was the day I had my gallbladder taken out. Then I had to go and get a new doc because my center was shut down! Thats how I met Dr Rosen, and I am glad I did hes awsome! Which you already know this.
So yes its normal to have what-if's, and the concerns you have are normal too!
Hope to see you in Oct.
It sure sounds like you have done very well though. See ya soon!

Karen

Its nice to see you come out of  the world of lurking. All of your concerns are real. We all had or have them. I have BCBS of Ohio, it took me less then 1 week to get approval. They generally take the BMI when you started, not after the 6 month diet. How much weight have you lost? It seems to be alot to drop your BMI that much. You are doing great!

Join in on our daily roll call. We are a friendly bunch, as you know from lurking,  and tell us a bit about you. We love newbies to the site.

Hugs

Welcome.

I have BCBS of MN.  I hear they are pretty good.  If you go to the home page of OH there is a section called SHARE.  There is a list, near the bottom of the list is something saying "your insurance" click on that.  If you click on Minnesota.  There is quite a few entries about BCBS of MN.  Most everyone has good things to say about our insurance.  I called the insurance co and they gave me a list of acceptable places to have the surgery.  They also mailed me a list of the requirements for approval.  I'm sure you know all that already.  I like the insurance so far.

I am just starting my 6 month doctor supervised diet.  SO I already understand doubt.  But I'm not going to let that little voice of doubt ruin my chances at a new life.  I think everyone here have had some doubts.  Don't worry you will do great.

Keep coming to the boards and let us know how you're doing.

First of all, Welcome to OH Illinois!

Congratulations on making a decision to get healthy. You are doing well with your pre-op weight loss! Lowering your bmi by 10 points is terriffic!

All those what ifs are what hold us back...I had them too...what if I fail at this...what if I don't lose the weight...they are natural and most of us go thru it. The insurance uses your bmi from the start date not after the 6 months of dieting. You mention that you have stopped losing, sometimes your body needs time to catch up with your loss. We all plateau from time to time. I don't know which surgery you are having but with the band your tool is there to help you forever.

I have BCBS IL and my approval came within a week.  Good luck on your journey and keep us posted!
Carol
