Home form WLS and I have a question?

Hi to everyone,

Now I have a question for those of you that journal or use blog sites to calculate your food /protein intake. Which is the best method for you? and why?

I had my surgery on September 16Th in with Dr. Kane.
Everything went well ,no surgery complications. My Blood sugar levels were too high for few days, they attributed it to stress of the surgery. After all clear liquids doesn't really give one much sugar. They gave me Insulin injections and that brought the Blood Sugar numbers down . YEAHHHHHHH

Also my iron and vitamin D levels were quite low so I am on additional supplements for these two concerns. These two were low before surgery so really it is an ongoing problem I will have to deal with and not surgery related.

I feel really good, and although I am puffed up a bit with gas still. Best of all I am home now and I am loving the peace and quiet.  ( I had a room-mate with a large family, who  talked loud and stayed for long visits) So a little learned advice here , try had to get private room.

My nurses and PCT were very good to me, they cheered me on with every walk-about I made during my stay. This was really helpful in getting rid of the trapped oxygen.

Thanks everyone and see you all on the Loser's Bench

Hi Kathy

Glad surgery went well.  I log my food intake on thedailyplate.com  I like it because it shows the nutritional value as well as you can add your exercise efforts.

Hi Cathy. Welcome home and to the losers bench! I was just asking about you on the daily roll call too.

With my RNY, I kept a written journal of what I ate.  I sure know  what you experienced with roommates. I had that problem too, whenever I was a patient at Alexian. They really need to renovate those rooms and make them all private. I couldn't wait to get home.

I'm glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery. Remember to get lots of rest!

I am over my cold. Thank goodness. I drank lots of tea and at nighttime, had rum in it. I wanted to make sure that I would get some sleep.

Keep in touch with us when you are up to it.

Hugs,
Lucy

Hi Lucy,

Thank you for replying to my post. Ihave a small journal "the Ultimate pocket Diet Journal" Its brief and has place to plug in key values. I shall try this in tandem with website based ( work just banned internet surfing while working ) so that will not be option in 4 weeks.

I am happy to hear your over that cold! I like your remedy sounds perfect for the upcomming winter colds we may get.

They did say that soon they are moving the entire wing to a new tower built for them, with all private rooms. This would be ideal for people that enjoy being with toddlers that cannot speak and must whine continuosly for??? Lord I cannot tell you since child spoke no words. Yeah you get me. I like children, just not while I am recovery from major surgery. I do like to play peak a boo , but not while I sleep. Oh no, I better stop there.

thanks for asking about me, and the welcome to Loser's Bench.

A shot of painkilling elixir and I plan to drift off to sleep in quietness.

Hugs

Cathy

I did not use anything to track computer wise but just used a pen and paper because when you are getting only liquids in when early out it is really simple. I still do not use anything for logging my intake; just make sure I get 5-6 meals in a day with the larger portion of my food being protein. This is just me because writing all of my intake down and then putting it in a computer later is too time consuming and mental consuming for me.

Hi Christine,

You make a great point. It would be double the work using both methods.

Oh my day would be water / meds / wait 30/ food / wait 30 / repeat again for 6 cycles . Then-paper log then pc log  . I guess I am nervous about not getting enough protein.

thanks for the reply

Hi Cathy,

Welcome back, glad to hear that your surgery went well.  Follow your doctors orders and you'll keep doing great.   From what I've heard the mantra after surgery is walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip and rest, rest, rest.

Congratulations to you , cant wait to see your progress! Hugs, Paulette
