Lack of Vitamin D anyone?
Hi Anna -
Thanks for checking on me. I'm still struggling terribly with the fatigue. Come to find out, there was some confusion when my blood work was done at the end of June and I should have been started on Vit B shots as well as over the counter vit D. So, after having a meltdown at my support group meeting last night, I think they realized I was either really sick or a nut case. I had another round of blood work done this am. All came back except the Vit D which will not be back until Monday or Tuesday. All levels were pretty close to what they were in June. I did go into the office and had my first vit B shot and a flu shot today. I'll have to wait until the other results are back to determine if he will write me a script. It was mentioned last night. I was also told that the blood work on my thyroid came back out of wack so they requested more tests to be done. I guess I'll know more next week.
So, no... I have not gotten the script yet but I'm sure hoping he gives it to me next week. I'm not sure how much longer I can funtion this way. It just down right stinks.
Thanks again. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Cristina,
I have low Vitamin D levels. Before surgery my Dr had me taking 2000 IU daily , my levels still did not rise enough. Now after surgery I am taking Drisdol, a prescription dose of 50,000 IU ( capsule) once weekly.
Be sure and consult with your physician first as Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which is excreted mainly in bile. You want to make sure you do not take too much.
I will be having blood labs done in about a week, to monitor the effect of the 50,000 once weekly.
this is from a resource I use;
Monitoring: Dosage adjustment is required as soon as there is clinical improvement. Start therapy at the lowest possible dose, and do not increase without careful monitoring of the serum calcium. Estimate daily dietary calcium intake and adjust the intake when indicated. Patients with normal renal function taking calcitriol should avoid dehydration. Maintain adequate fluid intake. In vitamin D-resistant rickets, the range between therapeutic and toxic doses is narrow. When high therapeutic doses are used, follow progress with frequent serum and urinary calcium, phosphate, and blood urea nitrogen determinations."
As for tiredness I think that my low Iron was major contributor for that . For this I take 300mg Ferrous Sulfate daily. Now I have much more energy. It would be nice to take a pill as liquid Iron is nasty.
