Friday Roll Call

Good Morning My Friends!  It looks like it's going to be a wet day.  I'm very tired today in that we went to dinner and a play last night for our anniversary and my mother's birthday.  We saw "The Full Montey" and it was very good.  But the down side is that I went to sleep two hours later than usual.  I saw my general doc yesterday and my chlosteral is slightly up as is my HgA1c but he said that's fairly normal.  We are going to wait a few months to see if things start dropping again.  I weighed in at 5 pounds lighter than when I was there a little over a month ago.  Not as much loss as I would like, but I'll take it!  Have a great day and weekend everybody!  Paul

Good Morning Paul & IL -
Paul - The play and dinner sounds like a good time.  Glad you and Liz and Mom had a great time.  Congrats on the wl.  It all adds up!
I'm really glad today is Friday.  HR is still here.  They arrived late yesterday which pushed everyones one on one interviews off schedule.  I'm a little nervous but feel pretty good about it at the same time.  I know there are at least six people that will back me up on how horrific the work conditions are.  We shal see if it does any good or if it's just going to continue to make my life a living nightmare.
My orientation starts tomorrow afternoon with Outback.  I'm excited.
Not much else going on.  Calvin is doing good, he had a fill yesterday and I hope he finally "gets it".  It's really hard for me to help him because I don't know much about the band so I don't know what he's going thru.  He says he's always hungry.  Oh well, one day at a time.  He loves his new job.
Have a great day everyone.

Christina,

Good luck with Outback!  It is one of my favorite places to go.  Not just because of the good food, but because of the friendly and efficent staff.  That holds true for every Outback I've ever been to (and I've been to many across the country!).  You will fit in perfectly.  As for Calvin, I can say with true authority, that the hunger is totally head hunger!  Unlike all you RNYers, we banders don't really have any major changes to our digestive tracks.  That means that we still have all those nasty hunger signals coming from our digestive regions to our brains saying "where's the beef?".  But it does pass once we get our heads into the game.  I think any experienced WLS patient can relate to that.  The nice side is that we banders don't have the nutritianal difficulties that come with bypass.  Tell Calvin to hang in there and if he needs a bander to talk to, I'm always there and willing.  If you don't have my phone number, just PM me and I'll be glad to send it.  I know that when I was a chef and trying to control my diet, it was a little more difficult being around food service all the time.  I'm sure both you and Calvin have to struggle a bit with that.  But the other side is that it builds stronger control in the end!

Christina,
I don't know how I missed your post on your working conditions...  I was in HR for many years (I was a nice HR Manager, not the mean ones that you hear about!)  Make sure that you document, document and document EVERYTHING!!!  Names, Dates and Times.  I always used the documentation to make my cases.  Not only with employees but against them too. There were many times that I used that documentation in court proceedings.  Good Luck!

Good Morning IL family,

Sounds like you had fun at the play and dinner Paul, that's cool.  congrats on the 5 lbs, it might not be a lot but at least it's something!

Today is going to be busy for me.  I have to call the dentist for Jacob, he cracked a tooth last night eating pizza crust!!  I am praying it's a baby tooth still. I also have a phone interview with a Vet's office that is in Montgomery.  It's kinda far, but it's a job if I get it.  It's called Orchard Road Animal Hospital, anyone heard of it or use it?  lol   I am supposed to go to breakfast with a very good friend that I used to work with and also run to the post office.
Tonight I have to take Tyler to the varsity football game and I really hope that the rain is over by then because I don't feel like sitting in the rain.

That's it for me, but it's enough too!  I hope everyone has a good day and stays dry!

Monica-
Hey you will be down by me.  I have seen the place but since I have no animals I never went in.  I live pretty close by (about 3-4 miles).  To bad I was working today or we could meet for lunch or something.  Good luck on your interview.

Hey guys its Friday!!!!!  Yeah!!!

Paul-  I would love to see that play.  Did you have to go out to Chicago to see it.  Also, I'm still learning here.  What is  your HgA1c???  Good job on your WL.  I'm hoping to have 3-5 pounds by next month for my second doctor supervised appt.

Christina-  Good luck on the orientation.  I love steak, and I haven't gone out for a good steak in a few years.  My daughter is a vegetarian.  Not much for her to eat there but salad.  Oh well I don't need all that red meat any way.  About my job we have these stupid meetings today with the president of the company. He's probably going to make all kinds of  empty promises.  I hope all goes well with everything at work for you.  I hate our HR department.

Well I hope today goes better than yesterday.  I was on the verge of cheating and eating White Castles for lunch.  I wanted them soooo bad.  I held strong but I really hated feeling like I was obsessing over a burger.  Thanks Randy for your funny post yesterday, it cheered me up.
I know no one knows better than you guys how tempting food is when your trying to eat healthy.

I saw the play at the Marriotte Lincolnshire up in Lincolnshire (25 miles northwest of the city).  It's a nice theater in the round and the production was a national tour from Broadway.  They had a Thursday package that included a great dinner before hand in their restaurant for $55.00!  Even though I only ate a small portion of it, the food was very good and it's nice to still feel like I'm having a special meal every now and then.  HgA1c is the measure of blood sugar over the course of time.  In diabetics, they measure every 3 months to see how your body is processing glucose.  A normal non-diabetic is usually below 6.  Prior to my WLS I was at 9 with insulin and medication.  I got rid of all the drugs and settled at 6.5 between May 3rd (my surgery date) and July 11th.  But this time around, I was up to 7.   That's not bad considering I'm not using any meds, but the fact that it rose instead of dropping is still reason to keep an eye on it.  I still have 30 pounds to loose to get to goal, and I'm hoping that the numbers will drop.  Even if it stays at 7, I can live with that and not use medication.  But if it continues to rise, even after I loose the additional weight, I'll need to look at my options.  Some type 2 diabetes are totally caused by obesity, but some is the product of true disease.  I'm hoping mine is all weight related, but only time will tell.  In any case, my life  prognosis is great (compared to an estimate of 6 to 10 years before my WLS!).  I have this fantasy of not only being healthy within a year of my surgery, but also being a buff "stud muffin"!  At 44 years old after a lifetime of obesity and lazyness, I realize that it truely is a fantasy, but stranger things have happened.  I have a loving wife and terrific kids, so just regaining my health has been a major blessing from above.  If I get the rest, it truely is icing on the cake.
