Good morning Illinoisans!

What a nice weekend this has been with Paul and Liz's party and hanging out with all of you and then we had our local "family" for dinner last night. Today we will have a cookout for ourselves and enjoy the garden. The patio is cool in the evening.

I think I am eating too fast. I got stuck last night with a dinner I have eaten many times. Back to really conscious eating and smaller bites.

Have a great day!

Good Morning my IL family,

Chris, it sounds like you and Dave are having another one of your wonderful get aways.  I'm so glad.

Things in our house today are subdued. We lost another pet this morning.  Charlie, Jacob's rat, died in my arms.  We have no idea why as he wasn't sick.  It was awful, 2 pets in as many weeks now.  We buried him in our backyard.

We aren't do much of anything else today, Tyler already had football practice from 7:30-10:30, so now it's just relax.

I hope everyone has a great Labor day and stay safe!

Monica

Good Morning/Early Afternoon Christine and Illinois

It is slightly past noon as I am posting but I got to the site before noon so I am in that am mode yet.

I really enjoyed meeting everyone at Paul's.  It was great to connect the names and faces to "real" people!  The visiting was great.

After I left there, I went to my sister's house in Antioch where we celebrated my great niece's 5th birthday.  I hit the nail on the head for gifts this year.  She was so excited when she opened my presents.  And then after all were opened she came to me and asked if she could open another present from me!   So I guess she really liked what I got her.

Yesterday we went boating out on the Chain of Lakes.  We had a late lunch/early supper and then I hit the road, stopping by Trader Joe's on my way home.  It was my first visit there and found some wonderful goodies.    Yummy!

Today, I have to go do my regular shopping.  The cats have to eat as well.  If I dont get their food, they will protest.

I am glued to the TV watching the coverage of Hurricane Gustav.  My niece lives in New Orleans and has a clothing store in the French Quarter that she opened right after Hurricane Katrina.  I just pray that they manage to survive this storm and that people come back.  Such a devastaing thing to happen to those people when they are just getting recovered from Katrina.

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon all!

Today is my 3 week mark after surgery, I cant believe it has only been 3 weeks.  So as of today I have lost 29 pounds.  I was hoping to hit the 30 mark but close enough!  I know I need to drink more fluids, that seems to be the hardest part for me.  Before surgery, I drank constantly at least a gallon a day.  I had a 2 quart bottle I filled at least 2x each day and had no problem.  Now, it seems like a chore to drink, and sometimes it still hurts to drink.  Hopefully that will get better soon.

Yesterday we went out with my dad for his birthday to Hackney's.  It went great.  I cant lie and say it wasnt hard for me, but I did not let on that I was dying for a Hackney Buffalo burger.  They had cream of mushroom soup and sides of cottage cheese so that is what I had.  I had a few sips of water just to cut the salt from the soup and I was ok.  It was just nice to be out with our whole family for his birthday.  Earlier this year, in Feb, my dad entered the hospital with jaundice and elevated blood work, and after many tests and procedures and complications and a 30 day hospital stay, he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.  He had to wait until May to have his surgery, and when they went in to do the "WHipple procedure" which is a very drastic procedure, they could only do half of it due to his pancreas being so inflamed they couldnt risk it because of bleeding. ( Boy that is really a run on sentence) So he has not had the part of the surgery that removes the cancer yet.  He has really done well and his last scan shows that his pancreas has really calmed down.  He gets another scan in Oct. and sees the surgeon in NOV. to see when they are going to finish the procedure.  We are hoping for a miracle and that whatever mass that was there has dissappeared.  SO anyway, the reason for this long story is that I wasnt sure he would even be here for this birthday so I am greatful for the ability to celebrate with him!!

Today is a quiet day here, just some straightening, getting ready for the school week, back to uniforms, homework, and a full week of activities.  I signed up to be Noah's room mom and was picked so after a meeting on Wed morning, I will be sending out info on what activities we have planned and the sign up sheets for volunteers.  The great thing about this school, is we always seem to have too many volunteers, so sometimes we have to pull names out of a hat for each event!!  It is a great school and neighborhood!   We also have curriculum night on Thursday when we get to see the room, his desk, locker, and learn what is expected from the kids and us as parents.  It is a great time to meet the teacher and make sure we are all on the same page.

After Brigid wakes up from her nap, we are going bowling, Noah's choice. I cant bowl yet, but I am a good score keeper. ( especially since they have electronic scoring!  LOL!)  I will be the cheerleader!

Wow so much for a short update........

Everyone have a great HOLIDAY day and stay safe!
