Open Season for Health Insurance...
Hello,
I have Aetna Open Access HMO (Gov. Employee); Am searching unsuccessfully thus far, to find out which 2008 health insurance plan in Illinois will accept lapband without six months medically supervised diet / 5 yr weight hx.
Does anyone have any advise? Is it really too mch to expect to find out ahead of time... otherwise, I'm seriously thinking of trying my best to convince myself that self-pay is going to have to do. Will also need to convince DH - really!
Thanks

Hello,
Are those the requirements for Aetna? Are you missing one of the requirements?
If it's your weight history, go to your PCP and request your records from the last five years. Your surgeon will take a weight from each year and submit it.
Now if they only require one diet, consider yourself blessed. My insurance wants 2-3, so I'm biting the bullet and I'm working on my third.
Finding out now, rather than later is mos def the best move. Even if you self pay and try a "fast-track", it will still take time. If your insurance is willing to pay, let them...you'll save your money to buy some new clothes once you join the losers bench.
Good Luck!

Thank you for the response. Aetna is asking for 6 months supervised diet and 5 yr weight hx. I'll need to contact 5 docs - cause I've changed providers yearly and sometimes twice per year. Wow, you are right about considering myself lucky with the six months diet.
Thanks and continued success to you!
