FRIDAY ROLL CALL
I know that it is like 15 mins into Friday, but you will understand in a minute.
First off, good morning everyone!
Now for the news.
Tuesday night I started to feel achey (sp?) and had a fever of 101, and it broke in the middle of the night. I woke up Wed not feeling right.I made a protein shake and had a hard time getting it down, and then started on my meds. I had a horrible time with the meds too. I did my drsg change on my drain that I was scheduled to get removed on Thursday. It had been leaking for a few days and was slightly pink. ( I had already called the office and the PA told me to put neosporin on and watch it) I always love when they say "watch it"....watch it do what??
Anyway with all the troubles I decided to call the office and see if they wanted to see me a day earlier or if I should tough it out to Thurs. Then as I was waiting for the call, I started with diarrhea and by the time I went to the office, I had gone 5x. The PA saw me at 1:45 and ended up sending me to St. Alexius for stat blood work, urine and stool cx. The drain remains in becasue I still have too much output.
As I was in the lab, my cell phone rang and it was the PA who said Dr. Wallace wanted me to get a stat abdominal and pelvic CT scan. With oral and IV contrast. Oral? OMG!! How is that possible? After much confusion, it ended up being 4oz of apple juice with the contrast mixed in it. I made it, but it was not pretty. ( at first they thought I meant I just had a Cardiac bypass and they couldnt understand why I couldnt drink 20 oz of contrast).
After the CT scans were done, Dr. Rantis called and decided to admit me to start becasue of dehydration and then to figure out what the H@#$ is going on. So I was admitted to the 6th floor around 9ish and it too****il 1am and 9 sticks, yes nine, to get an IV for fluids and antibiotics. Plus 2 sets of blood cx's and various other labs. Then of course there was the ever needy roomate who had to call to go to the bathroom every hour and took a half hour and then call to go back to bed. Did I mention my bed was by the bathroom door? Plus she yelled at the nurses and PCT's all the time and was soooo bossy! She was never satisfied with anything. SO I got about 1hr of sleep. UGH!!!
They took me for an upper GI ( oh God again!) and took some xrays first and decided that I had to wait til tomorrow, now today, Fri becasue I still had all of the contrast in me from the CT scan. Go figure as I had not gone to the bathroom for about 24 hours at that time. I guess dehydration was a good diagnosis.
SO up to my room I went and waited for all the varius docs to come in. No diagnosis as of yet, but Dr. Guske saw me and changed my antibiotics, ordered more labs and told me to try to eat what I could of a clear liquid diet. Well, I tried the chkn broth, and that worked for 1.5oz and a half of jello. (which had real sugar in it becasue my blood sugar was low) so you know what happened next........bye bye jello.......
I tried broth again at dinner and no go, I did eat the SF lemon jello and a popsicle. I swear I could live on popsicles. Of course now for 3 days I have had little to no protein and all the work I did on getting all that protein in is probably gone. I started my journey at 342 pre surgery, and Wed at the dr office I was 321. I noticed that my lower legs and calves are gone, so there went those muscles!
I am still nauseous, cant keep much in, all comes out the other end, at least no puking, although I came close. I have body aches like when you have the stomach flu. My temp is ok, My BP is low from 70/55 to 100/65, I really havent had much urine out today but lots of diarrhea, my drain is still draining and leaking. I think my output was 75cc for the day, and I am exhauseted.
I did get moved to another room in the afternoon becasue my roommate was driving everyone crazy and I could not be responsible for my actions in my dehydrated, sleep deprived state. I am now in a window bed with a very nice lady who is having her gallbladder out in the morning. I can help her with that, I have been there done that.
So does anyone know what the heck is going on with me? I will take any guesses and not hold anyone responsible for their answers, and I might award a prize if someone gets the right answer.
Oh yea, (WARNING TMI COMING) My stool ( if you can call it that) is now reddish orange, a big change from bright yellow. They gave me Milk of Mag ( another YUK!) to help me go more ( if you can believe it) to get rid of the contrast for sure so I can have the test. Has anyone had that happen to them? The color change of the stool or should I be worried that now there is bleeding in there and that is causing the color change. No one up here seems to know, or seems too concerned so I guess I should not be either. But it freaks me out when things come out a wacky color and I dont feel well at all.
Sorry for the long post, but I do not know where else to turn, and I know you guys would have some good advice.....sooooo GOOD MORNING and I hope to hear from you all soon.
I am so sorry you are back in the hospital Eileen.

Cat Lady
I am so sorry for your illness that brought you to the hospital. I really don't have any answers for you; that is best left to the doctors. Just know that you are in my prayers that they find an answer soon and you'll be on your way to a speedy recovery.
Today I am seeing Dr. Crane at 9:15 a.m. He's coming in early just to squeeze me into his full schedule of appointments. I sure could use a sounding board now.
I just might treat myself to a movie this afternoon. A silly one, just to lift my spirits - the one with the playboy bunny going to college..
Anyone coming to the support meeting tomorrow at ABMC?
Wishing everyone a wonderful Friday.
Hugs,
Lucy

Eileen, I sure hope they figure out soon what is going on with you.... gentle hugs to you!
I saw the Endocrinologist yesterday, the thyroid nodule is benign and she is very pleased with my progress. She said she doesn't feel like I should pursue the wls, since I am losing at a steady rate and have made all the correct changes in food choices, portions and lifestyle. She feels that I have the correct attitude and skills to continue losing and to maintain the weight loss. This is in line with what the psychologist told me last week. I do see the psychologist again today. The endo said I can remain in this metabolic program for 1 year which would be through next February, and all the professionals that I am seeing in this program agree that I should not focus on having wls... just to continue doing what I am doing.
So that's all for now folks.....
Paulette
I too am sorry you are having problems Eileen, but you have a great medical team, and I am sure they will get to the bottom of what is happening to you.
Nothing on my plate for today. Just a few errands. Have some housework to do also. Yesterday I played most of the day. I worked on my current rug, did a couple of scrapbooking pages, and worked on my faux window. So, I really need to do some stuff today.
Paulette, you do what is right for you. Just remember, diets don't work
forever.
Hugs
