Good Morning/Afternoon all -
Another beautiful day here in my neck of the woods.  I'm just putzing around not doing a whole lot.  I did pick up a couple of pairs of slacks and blouses for my interviewing days.  I wear jeans and sweats to work now being in a dirty wharehouse so my "dress" clothes are very limited.  I did have a couple blazers/jackets so I'm in pretty good shape.
I'm thinking about going down and cleaning the carpet in the basement or I can clean the garage.  Neither one sounds too exciting but I'll figure it out.  For now, I think I'll go make a cup of java and sit on the patio with a book.  I told you this is "my" day to just do whatever.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Illinois Friends!

I too slept in this morning.  The clock said 9:30 when I got out of bed the second time.    I haven't slept in that long in a long time!  Today I need to run errands and then putz around the house.  No exciting plans for the weekend.  These are the types of weekends I like.  I enjoy kicking back and catching up on chores and relaxing.  Plus the cats get play time and brush time so they really eat that up!  It looks like we are going to have some great weather.  Enjoy your weekend!

Good Evening All!

Here it is Sat already, I have been home two days and still cant get my act together.  I am trying so hard but cant find enough mins in the day to get all the fluids and protein in.  Was this hard for all of you?

Then my other problem is that I fall asleep, and wake up 3 hours later which puts me even more behind and I get stressed out.  Here it is 5pm and I am working on meal #2 and basic liquids.  I slept most of the day away.

This morning I had ensure high protein and I think my first "dumping " experience.  It felt very weird after I drank it, and then I got cold sweats, increased heart rate a little and then had diarrhea.  (TMI?) sorry.  That is when I went back to sleep for the afternoon.  Is that what that was?

So Now I just had chicken broth and that seemed to set pretty well and I took my pain meds for the first time since last night, and i am going to take a shower.  Need ONE BAD!

I am hoping I will feel better after that.  Im sure this is all normal but just need reassurance.  Is it more important to get the fluid amount in ( water, crystal light, propel etc...) or the "meals" (broth, jello, ensure, juices etc..) in?  I am thinking fluids but I know I need the protein to heal.

SPeaking of protein, I tried mixing the protein powder in the chicken broth and it clumped up, it there a trick to this?  I must be doing something wrong.  I ended up dumping it and just having reg broth.

Boy Im sorry this was so long, but you guys are my information station and I could really use your help.

I want to get stronger soon becasue I want my son and daughter to be able to come home when I can take care of them again.  I miss them terribly!

Thanks for listening!

Eileen, protein powder will clump it it is mixed in something to hot. Let the broth cool down to about 150 degrees, and it should be fine. You will get stronger day by day, just get in as much as you can, liquid and food, and you will be fine. No one expects you to be able to eat and drink everything in such a short time.

Just take things a minute at a time right now.  You just had major surgery.  Your body will be tired and will require lots of rest.  Just sip, sip, sip.. and walk, walk, walk when you are awake.  I was told to "just do the best you can" with your intake the first few weeks.  I had a schedule that my nutritionist provided that should how many ounces each hour to try to get in.

Hang in there, it does get better.

Hi Everyone!
It's good to see everyone doing well.
Just an update for me - My husband and I attended the seminar that the surgeon puts on about WLS. We are both hoping to get bands. The next step is to fill out this huge medical history packet, then we can get appointments with the surgeon. Of course we have to have a psych eval, see the PT and dietician before surgery (required by the surgeon), but it seems as if our insurance is going to be easygoing, as their only requirement is that a surgeon recommend the surgery.

One of my concerns is the fact that I have bipolar disorder - I'm wondering if anyone gets denied/fails evals because of that. The good news is if they don't I'll still be able to take all my meds w/ the band.

Anyway, thanks for listening!

Hi Helen -
As long as you have your bypolar under control and get your family doc to sign off, I don't think that having bipolar will stand in your way.  It's been a long time since I've talked to one of the IL poster but I'm pretty sure she said she is bipolar and had gastric bypass.
Good Luck to you and your hubby on this amazing journey.  Who is your surgeo?
