Has anyone else been in this situation?

Background – I am in the process of completing my 6-month supervised diet requirements for BCBS of IL PPO.

In 2005 I was in an auto accident, which messed up my back, neck & shoulder. I was sidelined for a while and in PT. Too make a long story short, I also gained about 70 lbs and it aggravated my injuries. This is all well documented.

I know that the BCBSIL six-month diet requires an exercise component. I can only exercise as tolerated, which isn’t very much.

My questions:

Can they deny me based on this?

But I dream things that never were; and I say 'Why not?'

I am unable to exercise vigorously due to cardiac and pulmonary issues.  I had a form that I had to fill out w/each monthly visit documenting my weight, diet, exercise, meds etc.  My doctor always filled in that I was unable to, due to those issues.  I also had letters from both docs(heart and lung)
backing that up, along w/my note that is very hard to do jumping jacks w/a portable O2 tank.  It seemed to suffice.  Make sure you don't miss a month-you will have to start all over.  There MUST a visit in each calendar month or they don't count.  One of my denials was because of the exercise factor, but my surgeon told them to re-read my medical records and all the letters and they came up w/a new reason.  It takes a while sometimes, but keep at it and don't give up.  We're here to help-Good Luck-Hugs-Janet K

I dont have Blue Cross Blue Shield but Cigna which can also be a pain.  I cannot exercise due to bone on bone knees and the use of a cane.  I can barely walk.  My PCP documented this and it did not interfere with my approval.  Good luck.

I have BCBS IL PPO. Most of my exercise has been walking & going to Curves. So far, insurance seems like they are going to approve me, they just said I need one more month to get approved. Good luck.

I have very bad knees and exercise is not been good for me. I have BCBS-IL during my six mt period I gained weight and I was approved kinda the first time thru. Altho I can see from other discussions this is rare. Just have ALL your documentation. What I mean by kinda the first time is that they denied saying I had not done well in the 6 mths. My nut and dr sent a letter (not an appeal) stating all the changes and problems I had and asked for someone different to look it over and it was approved in 2 days. Good Luck!
