pre-op preparation question

I have a question about the prep for surgery.  I have to take Mag citrate on Sunday along with a total clear liquid diet.  I have been on a 10 day liquid diet so that part is ok.  My question is when should I start the mag citrate?  Does it take long to take effect? and how long does the effect last?  I suppose it may be different for everyone, but if I get a general idea it would help.  My surgery was originally scheduled for 11:30am and now has been moved up to 7:30am. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am.  Any suggestions would be great.  Thanks!

Generally they tell you  to start it  24 hours pre. It depends on you, the  mag nitrate works on me within a couple of hours.

Good luck Monday, we will see you on the losers bench.

Sorry Eileen, can't help. I didn't have to take it.
Did they give you a time to take it for the 11:30 surgery?
If so do it four hours earlier.  Sending you good wishes for your surgery....may you have a quick recovery!

I would advise you to call the surgeons office and ask the on-call doc.  Where you are having RNY, I think you need to clean out earlier and then nothing by mouth after midnight.  I really would call the office because the best advice is from the surgeon's mouth!  Good luck and we'll see you on the loser's bench soon.  Big Higs-Janet K

You should have been given instructions from the Kane Group.  If you didn't get it ask for it.

If I remember correctly it was a 2 part process.  First part was at 2:00 and it wasn't that bad. Next part was at 7:00 and that was harder.  Not much sleep that night as I was  ...well you know.  But through it all by the time I had to be at the hospital and I had to be there by 6 a.m.

But do call the office and have them send you an instruction sheet.

Good luck!
Regards and hugs,

Ronna
