Support groups
I think all support groups are good. You can get valuable information from both types of groups as much of the journey is the same.
We have a support group in Rockford (3rd Monday of the month) and we have both bandsters and RNY's.
My surgeon's support group begins with the first hour on a chosen topic, then for the second hour, they split into smaller groups......sometimes bands and bypasses, sometime pre and post-op.
The important thing is to find some support. Although this board is pretty great for support when you can't get to one in person.

I have the same doc as Karen (grand_ma) does and cannot affirm more what she said about our monthly support group other than the fact that our doc is there EVERY month to be a part of our monthly topic. He is always there to talk with personally either as a group or privately.
I will say that I am familiar with your area and have to think that there are some larger hospitals in the area where you might be able to start a support group if there isn't one already. There possibly is a doctor or other cliician that is willing to come on board to assist you with helping to get it up and going. The reason I am saying this is because my sister lives near Jasper, IN and there are several people that she knows of in the area that wanted to start a group for WLS patients and they finally were able to get one going. There also was a doctor in the area that wanted to start gearing his practice towards WLS and he is on board also.
