Support groups

I always see RNY support meetings, but I do not see a lot of Lap band meetings.

I'm in the middle of IL right outside of decatur.

I was just wondering if it is good to go to the bypass ones or is it so different that you should visit just a lap band support group??

I think all support groups are good.  You can get valuable information from both types of groups as much of the journey is the same.

We have a support group in Rockford (3rd Monday of the month) and we have both bandsters and RNY's.

My surgeon's support group begins with the first hour on a chosen topic, then for the second hour, they split into smaller groups......sometimes bands and bypasses, sometime pre and post-op.

The important thing is to find some support.  Although this board is pretty great for support when you can't get to one in person.

Tell someone that you love them!

My surgeons support group meetings are for all. They just cover all areas of WLS. Then if there is s question its covered for all Bands, Rny's so I always leave feeling I got alot of info. Realy other then the dumping I feel we all have similar issuses  and support  group at all is better then none!

I have the same doc as Karen (grand_ma) does and cannot affirm more what she said about our monthly support group other than the fact that our doc is there EVERY month to be a part of our monthly topic. He is always there to talk with personally either as a group or privately.

I will say that I am familiar with your area and have to think that there are some larger hospitals in the area where you might be able to start a support group if there isn't one already. There possibly is a doctor or other cliician that is willing to come on board to assist you with helping to get it up and going. The reason I am saying this is because my sister lives near Jasper, IN and there are several people that she knows of in the area that wanted to start a group for WLS patients and they finally were able to get one going. There also was a doctor in the area that wanted to start gearing his practice towards WLS and he is on board also.
