Good Evening friends,

Am I the only one who is up late?  THis is finally the time I can have to myself after the kids are in bed.

Today was a busy day, saw the pulmonologist for my pre-op clearance visit.  It seems kind of crazy I had to see him for the RNY but no one called him when I had my gallbladder out. Anyway he gave me some inhalers to use until surgery so my lungs will be good and clear and open by then.

I also had to go see one of the docs in my pcp office because I developed a stye in my R eye and I woke up with an almost swollen shut eye this morning.  I have had styes before, but never like this.  It hurts alot and itches at the same time!  SHe gave me drops and told me to put warm, moist compresses on my eye as much as possible.  If it doesnt go away in 24 hrs I may have to go to the ER to have it opened up.  OMG!!!  Have I not had enough of ERs and procedures?  I think so!

This weekend we are taking our neighbors out to dinner to thank them for all they do for us. They run a daycare out of their house and the girls babysit for my kids all the time.  I dont know what we would have done without them this summer with all my hospital stays, ER visits and all the testing,  One of the girls is in 7th grade and she comes over once a week to help me to clean and put the kids to bed,  She is wonderful.  SHe will be coming over after my surgery to help out too.  Thank God for great neighbors!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

It is not that late - we are watching the news then to night night.

As far as seeing the pulmo - they want to make sure that you do not have lung issues, sleep apnea etc. Hart found Dave to have apnea and he had to have two sleep studies before approval and be on the c-pap for a minimum of 30 days. They also monitor your blood thinners and your levels on the c-pap while in the hospital. It is a little more extensive work up for WLS than a gall bladder removal as the possibility of blood clots are far greater during the early PO stay in the hospital for WLS. Don't get me wrong there is a danger with clots for any surgery but for WLS it is a little more of a possibility.

My doctor has his patients up and out of bed about 4-6 hours after surgery because of clots. I had to walk every nursing shift even in the middle of the night during my stay. I asked to get out of bed when I got into my room so I could make sure that I did not get one. I had a prior DVT in '91 that went to my lungs - not fun.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.  I have been seeing the pulmonologist since Feb. and have had 2 sleep studies and have been on cpap since.  I know I will be on Lovonox after the surgery for 2 weeks and have to wear TED hose and compression boots.  I just went to see him after the gallbladder surgery because I had some trouble coming off oxygen after that surgery and wanted to ask for some braathing treatments post op to help clear up my lungs.  If it was hard to deep breathe and cought with gallbladder sx I can only immagine it will be harder with the WLS.

I was just surprised that the surgeon did not call the pulmonologist in on the gallbladder case, since I was still going under general anesthesia and I had a hard time keeping my sats up without O2.  Respiratory hooked up O2 to my cpap machine post op and that seemed to help alot!

I am greatful for all the specialists' involvement, it makes me feel much safer with pulmonology, endocrinology, and cardiology on the case.  Thank goodness for great surgeons who are willing and happy to call otheres in on the case.

So Chris,

Muscle does not weigh more than fat?  I did not know that.  It just takes up less space right?  Thanks for the info.  I don't think I am eating enough calories a day and drinking enough water for the time and amount I am out side and sweating.  My exercise routine is not really a routine.  I swim some days and run some other.  Some days I just chase kids all day.  Today I trimmed my parents hedges and trees w/ a VERY heavy gas powered trimmer.  My arms already hurt!  I have started weight training.  We have a set of Power Blocks and I have been lifting weights and doing push ups.  I have grown to live squats w/ a weight bar.  For some reason I get a high when my legs burn.  I haven't done any ab work yet because I still am to afraid.  I should start though.  It's my tummy that really need the work.  A tummy tuck is in the future for me.  I can already see it!!!  I will post some new pictures soon, so you can see the updated me!!!  Thanks for all the great info!!!  Hey Chris, I'm doing a dualathon at the end of Aug if you are interested. It's swimming 8 laps then running 3 or 5 miles.  Let me know!

Kim
