What to have in the house for post-op

hi all!

I posted this on the main board, but wanted to ask my local friends their opinion too.

I am going to get my surgery date tomorrow and have to start planning ahead for my post op time.

I have 2 kids, 23months and 9 1/2 yrs and a husband to plan for too.  My husband is not known for being domestic.  At all.

So what are the things I need to make sure I have in the house so when I come home I am all set?  I'm not sure how much help I will have so I want to be prepared in case I am sick and can't leave the house.  I figure prepare for the worst and you will get the best.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated and welcomed!

I am excited and nervous at the same time.  I just want it to be over so I can start my new life, and i am ready to do whatever it takes to get healthy again.

Thank you to everyone for all your help!

Eileen

Eileen,

For yourself, you need clear liquids on hand.  When your doing the canned stuff it can get old fast.  I recommend making your own stock now and freezing it in 1 oz containers.  Popsickles, jello and start looking now for a protein powder/drink that you like. Don't forget to get your vitamins now.

I wouldn't go crazy on the shopping.  I gave away a bag of baby food that I never got to.

I would just start making extra at every meal and freezing the left overs now for your family.  Keep in mind that your not going to want to do anything for at least a week after surgery.  Sip, walk, and rest is it.

As for your other post about the hair loss.  From what I have heard, most people do loose their hair.  They say that biotin works, and I have heard others say that it doesn't.  I know that I started loosing mine at 3 1/2 months post op and now I am 6 1/2 months out and still loosing it.  I had the thickest hair, so I don't really mind it thinning down.  I did ask the dr last week when it would stop and he said once my weightloss evens out.  You can certainly try taking the biotin and see if that works, if anything you should at least get stronger nails from it.
