I had asked some time ago about two doctors.  I have since seen Dr. Denham and will be using him for my RNY,  Does anyone have any info/comments regarding this doctor.  Looks like I will be having surgery in at Evanston Hospital(any comments on this hospital)  I am not from the area, so any information is appreciated.

I dont know your surgeon, but I do know about Evanston/Northwestern hospital.  My dad had surgery there in April for pancreatic cancer, and the care he received there from outpatient to inpatient was awesome.  It is a beautiful hospital with nurses who care about their patients and believe in family centered care.  My dad had no complaints and only good things to say about the quality of care he received.  He went from surgery to ICU to a regular surgical floor and all was good.  They have a great reputation and their surgeons are top notch.  My dad's surgeon is now chief of surgery, so if your surgeon works under him you are in GREAT hands!  Good Luck.  If you are having any family come with you and plan on staying nearby check with the hospital's concierge as they have special rates at different hotels for out of town family.  they really help you in many ways!
Good Luck to you!  If you have any more questions, please dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks!  Any information is helpful--the closer it gets, the more nervous I am.  Although I am several months away, it will be here before I know it!!!

I had surgery there in 2006.  The hospital is beautiful as the other poster stated.  The care and attention of the nursing staff left a lot to be desired. I have a VERY high tolerance for pain, so when I asked for medication, that meant I really needed it.  I would wait for ages to get any.   They brought me 7-up after surgery, which of course you can't have and I had to wait for assistance with the washroom etc.  When you first start walking they wanted you to walk with an aide or someone from the nursing staff.  Each time I wanted to walk, there was no assistance.  If I did not have family to help, I would have been in very sad shape.

I have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Denham, I attended one of his support groups and his patients loved him.

Best wishes,
Mary
